Sommelier (Sommelier and Chef Jobs: Hotels)

Do you have what it takes to be our new Sommelier? 
Summary of Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Wine, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:             
  • Ability to engage with our guests and understand what wine experience they are looking for
  • Passionate with the ability to romance the wine while providing polished and elegant service
  • Offer genuine sense of hospitality at each point of guest contact 
  • Make great food and wine recommendations you genuinely feel our guests will enjoy
  • Have full working knowledge of the wine list and be to be able to answer guest and team questions regarding the origin, vintage, style of various wines
  • Provide wine selections for events, promotions or selected functions
  • Motivated to learn and to teach on a daily basis, conduct wine training, seminars, and bring enthusiasm for the wine program
  • Assist Director of wine with providing regular reporting of wine revenue and assist with implementing strategies to hit revenue goals
  • Assist with updating and maintaining the restaurant wine list
  • Responsible for wine inventory, maintain an approachable BIN system and making sure wine information is accurately translated to POS system
  • Responsible for the maintenance wine storage areas including cleanliness, organization and upkeep of work space, maintaining tools at the highest level, ensuring all equipment is in working order  
  • Ensure liquor controls are in place and adhered to at all times
  • Account for wine stock, its quality, and the product received, maintain wine inventory, assist with monthly wine inventory and verify inventory data
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum WSET Level 2

  • A passion for all things hospitality is required
  • The ability to be happy and welcoming, responsive and solution oriented is a must
  • Previous love of wine with experience in similar capacity   
  • Must have Food Safe Level I and BC Serving It Right Certificates
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • Highly responsible & reliable
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):        

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs
  • Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps 

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
