What we are looking for….
- Applicants must have degree in Viticulture and/or in related field
- 2-3 years vineyard management experience with an extensive working knowledge of farm equipment.
- Must have valid Ontario driver’s license
- Knowledge of soils, drainage, nutrient management, insects, weed management, canopy management, and crop harvesting and handling
- Experience in innovation is a value addition and new product development considered an asset
- Vested interest in progressive IPM programs
- Good observational and diagnostics skills
- Excellent communication and ability to deliver clear and concise instructions
- Experience with critical thinking/problem resolution, data collection – establishing facts and drawing conclusions.
- Must be self-motivated, and able to work independently, or as part of a team with demonstrated ability to lead and inspire others.
- Skilled in writing reports, data collection, correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Must be flexible and able to work overtime up to 7 days per week as needed.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Organizing and optimizing efficiency of vineyard/harvest staff and assigning daily tasks and setting ongoing goals.
- Providing proper safety training and personal protective equipment for all vineyard staff.
- Designing effective spray program and ensuring that all applications meet safety standards.
- Vineyard purchasing and inventory maintenance.
- Recording activity and maintaining logs for vine growth, weather patterns, pest/disease control, nutrient applications, crop assessments, grape weights etc.
- Must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel programs.
- Repairing vineyard equipment and conducting preventative maintenance on equipment such as tractors, tools, vehicles etc.
- Coordinating with independent growers on maintenance of grapes and organizing contracts.
- Preparing and adhering to operations budget.
- Staying current on industry trends, evaluating and recommending new grape varietals, growing trends/techniques and technologies.
- Assisting in wine cellar when required.
- Assisting with other property tasks when needed (i.e. helping/organizing staff for vegetable garden, assisting with farm animals when needed etc.)
Remuneration is based on skills and experience.
