Overview

This position is responsible for the effective operation of multiple high end wineries in the Okanagan as well as management of supply chain for distribution of these and the company’s imported wines across Canada.  Reporting to the Chairman & CEO, this position is accountable to ensure all wineries are operated in an efficient, safe, and compliant manner, while achieving cost and productivity goals aligned with the strategic vision of VMF Estates.  This position will also oversee the supply, inventory and distribution network to ensure all products sold across Canada are delivered to customers in the most efficient and effective manner and efficient logistics are in place for international sales.

 


Core Duties and Responsibilities

Facility Operations Leadership (Multiple Locations)

§ Accountable for planning and execution of production planning, quality control, packaging activities (bottling, kegging,), warehouse operations, distribution, and facility maintenance performance and continuous improvement.

§ Create the capability for sustainable, cost effective manufacturing and distribution, by continuously optimizing costs, minimizing environmental impact, and maintaining exceptional quality and safety standards.

§ Effectively manage inventory control of finished products and packaging components.

§ Preparation and control of packaging, maintenance, capital, warehouse operational budgets and projects.

§ Establish and maintain property, equipment, and utilities in good condition to assure product quality, process efficiency, and economical operations.

§ Compliance with policy, regulations, health & safety targets and sanitation, hygiene, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) objectives.

§ Support capital expansion projects and new facility development with operations subject matter expertise as necessary.

 

Canadian Supply Chain Management

§ Manage a team of Inventory & Distribution Planners to ensure all inventory is effectively managed and logistics cost budgets are achieved.

§ Build an effective warehouse and distribution network (i.e. Container World) within Canada to support the sales of all products sold in Canada.

§ Work collaboratively with the Sales organization to minimize out of stocks, disruption to sales and ensure that the right product is in the right place at the right time, at the lowest possible cost.

 

People Leadership

§ Create a focused culture that drives exceptional performance, entrepreneurial thinking and employee commitment, where people embrace ambiguity and construct concrete direction while things are changing.

§ Provide leadership, mentorship, performance management, rewards and recognitions, career progression opportunities for department employees to enhance employee engagement and performance.

§ Provide supply chain and packaging expertise on new products and packaging options.

§ Champion product cost reduction initiatives, identifying and executing against opportunities to reduce direct product costs while maintaining quality and brand integrity.

§ Ownership of functional budget, providing insight into variances where appropriate and driving corrective action as required for continuous improvement.

§ Build internal supply chain and operations expertise through the promotion of technical standardization and clear, consistent, documented processes across teams.

§ Drive energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements.

 

Minimum Requirements (Experience, Education, Qualifications, Skills, Abilities)

§ BSc in Mechanical Engineering.

§ Minimum of 20 years progressive experience leading teams in packaging, warehouse, maintenance, plastics manufacturing, and general plant operations.

§ Commercial leadership experience managing marketing and sales teams with proven performance.

§ Experience in beverage manufacturing including alcoholic beverages.

§ Effective leadership and strategic influencing skills.

§ Proven experience leading/managing teams and developing people/organizations.

§ Experience in large and small manufacturing operations is a must-have, including packaging, bottling and kegging lines.

§ Proven technical expertise in managing major capital projects in a facility, including project design and implementation.

§ Demonstrated packaging expertise and the ability to provide technical insight on package materials and design from a manufacturing perspective is required.

§ Proven experience leading and implementing ‘green’ or sustainable initiatives within an operation.

§ Demonstrated ability to hire talented professionals and build a team that embraces change and thrives on doing more with less.

§ Proven ability to successfully lead a diverse group of employees.

§ Proven experience in packaging innovation.

§ Experience in managing supply chain and multiple production locations to ensure supply demands are achieved in a cost effective and efficient manner.

§ Advanced organizational skills in planning, design, and project and time management.

§ Exceptional written, verbal, negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.

§ Proficient with personal computers and business applications.

§ Strong critical thinking, analytical and effective decision making skills.

§ Demonstrated ability to work across functions, business units and geographies, including a strong background in a matrix organization.
