The Wine Syndicate is a medium-sized, dynamic Western Canadian wine agency with headquarters in Vancouver. We are amongst the fastest growing agencies in Western Canada, and our ambitions are not to be the biggest, but to be the best. We sell only wine (no spirits, beers or coolers) and pride ourselves on our product knowledge, our relationships (with industry and with our producers) and our company culture.
We’re looking for a senior salesperson to join our Alberta team. Our Alberta business is geared for growth and the primary responsibility of this multichannel role is to lead the development of The Wine Syndicate in the Alberta market – to lead sales growth, build the reputation of the agency and to develop and coach the small, but growing team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To professionally represent The Wine Syndicate in all dealings with clients and suppliers with integrity, knowledge, passion, and a willingness to outperform every other agency
- Responsible for promoting the entire portfolio with a high degree of knowledge and understanding as to what makes our wines right for our clients
- To manage a territory of accounts (on-premise and retail accounts) with the objective of growing distribution and sales of the wines in the portfolio (territory base to be defined, but will include accounts in Calgary, Edmonton and Bow Valley)
- To provide support to, coach and train one Calgary salesperson at the outset
- Undertake various promotional activities such as tasting, presentations to members of the trade and consumers, and attendance at all important promotional events (wine tasting, dinners etc.)
- Provide the following reports within the defined timelines:
- Distribution Planning
- Expense reports, including original receipts a nd documentation on a monthly basis
- Local market intelligence (sales trends, product developments and competitor activity) to review future goals and objectives
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Broad wine knowledge – superior understanding of wine with confidence to conduct product education seminars
- Strong analytical skills – ability to analyze sales trends in the territory and use the information to make sound business decisions
- Ability to manage tasks and to exercise independent judgment without supervision
- Strong client orientation, possessing strong negotiation and mediation skills with the ability to motivate others to achieve mutually beneficial sales objectives
- Strong team player, demonstrating the ability to maintain positive work atmosphere by communicating and working effectively with clients, management, peers, and colleagues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to speak and present to key decision makers and customers both internally and externally
- Must be able to travel as necessary to be physically present at events or meetings where his or her personal presence is required
EXPERIENCE:
- Previous beverage alcohol sales experience essential (applications without agency sales experience will not be considered)
- Experience managing retail and on-premise accounts
- A proven performer with demonstrated success in the growth of a wine portfolio in the Alberta market
- Experience dealing with chain retail accounts an advantage (but not a prerequisite)
- Experience managing a direct report also an advantage
