Employment Period:
· February 1 through December 15 (full-time)
· December 15 through January 31 (part-time, as required)
· Working hours (target) shall be 174 hours per month, pending actual work requirements, where significant flexibility will be required.
Duties:
1. Vineyard
· Vineyard management, including all functions of grape and vine husbandry, from pruning, and through the growing season, to harvest, to ensure optimum yield and quality for all varietals, requiring hands-on responsibility and management of requirements for approved additional labour (eg. leaf removal, picking, etc.)
· All matters related to the vineyard, including: preventive control of pests and plant diseases, using equipment and supplies (eg. Spray chemicals) as available.
· All aspects of vineyard maintenance, including posts and wire integrity, as well as perimeter fencing.
· Use of all equipment for vineyard activities, including tractor, sprayer(s), fertilizer spreader, cultivator, spring harrow, and others as required.
2. Winemaking
· All winemaking activities, including (but not limited to):
o processing of the raw grapes at the time of harvest
o All aspects of the fermentation process, including ingredient additiont (yeast, nutrient, bentonite addition, sulphite control, etc.)
o All aspects of tank management from harvest to cold stabilization and preparation for bottling, including tank preparation, racking, tank movement and positioning for poly tanks.
o Management of the bulk inventory, including topping of oak barrels, ensuring bulk tanks, seals, valves, air locks, etc. are in good working condition.
o Packaging/bottling of the finished wines to ensure the highest-quality product is available to support the Sales demand as required by the business.
o Sample preparation for internal analysis (soluble solids/Brix, acid content, etc.)
o Preparation of samples for VQA analysi and bottling preparation for external laboratory evaluation.
o Ensure proper sanitizing techniques are applied for all equipment, including tanks, pumps, hoses, filters, and filler, etc.
o Part-time work during the winter period (December 15 through January 31) will require occasional bulk inventory management and finished goods packaging requirements on a planned and limited basis.
3. Other duties
· As required, participation and interaction with Wine Shop customers (eg. Facility and vineyard tours, etc.)
· All other duties as required from time to time and agreed with the Proprietor(s)
