We are seeking an experienced marketing manager who has worked in the competitive wine industry and thrives on performance and results. The job position covers all of Canada and focuses on market development through partnering with Liquor Boards and leading wine industry retailers. Key to success is developing, selling and executing marketing and promotion activities, delivering trade and consumer events on behalf of the New Zealand Winegrowers and association members.
Ideally the successful candidate should have current wine industry experience and knowledge of the key provincial markets of Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta. Candidates should be experienced in meeting with senior liquor board department heads and wine category managers, as well as having an understanding of the new channels of distribution and opportunities for premium wines in grocery and private wine shops. Knowledge and experience working with the restaurant industry in particular with top sommeliers as well as wine media and key influencers in wine education and social media would be an asset.
This contract position can be conducted by one of three following operating structures.
- You have a marketing and promotion company with a full team of support staff.
- You will be able create a marketing and promotion company and have the option to hire the current NZW Canada marketing admin manager and admin assistant as part of your team.
- You are willing to work on contract as an individual and work with the current NZW marketing and admin staff also on contract working from another office in Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
MARKETING:
- Produce a marketing and events plan that increases the image and awareness for New Zealand wine in Canada with the focus on the four key provinces
- Set KPI deliverables for each of the NZ Winegrowers core strategies (part of interview process)
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders: Liquor Boards, grocery chains, private wine shops, import agents, industry associations, and trade commissions
- Develop personal rapport with key wine media, top sommeliers and notable wine influencers
- Manage timelines and logistics to deliver promotions, events and activities on time and on budget
- Source and provide analysis on wine sales data by province for NZW board and Guide to Market
- Maintain and report on liquor board category updates on product calls, policy changes, pricing, recent development and sales opportunities
- Deliver a wine education program for liquor board product consultants, retail front line staff, sommeliers and trade students taking WSET, CAPS, ISG, IWEG courses
EVENTS:
- Conduct NZW wine fair events for trade and consumer in key cities across Canada each May
- Complete post event reports for promotions and events with feedback and outcomes to NZW
- Communicate and pitch agents and wineries to sign up for events/promotions throughout the year
- Offer assistance to wineries seeking agent representation either nationally or by province
- Maintain/update a trade, media and consumer data base observing Canada privacy best practices
- Provide a communications strategy and social media awareness program for events and promotions
ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- University degree or post-secondary education
- A minimum of 5 years in marketing and sales in the wine industry (nationally)
- Self-motivated as a leader, adaptable with good time-management skills
- Strategic thinking and able to identify industry trends and opportunities
- A good understanding of social media strategies and communication techniques
- Comfortable networking in the industry across all sectors and at all levels
- Ability to manage project managers and multiple projects simultaneously
- Attention to detail: deadlines, projects, service to stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, French speaking an asset
REMUNERATION:
This is a contract agreement with New Zealand Winegrowers with levy budgets set for marketing and user pay budgets for events.
