From humble beginnings we have grown to be one of the largest wine producers in Ontario, producing in excess of 500,000 cases of quality wine annually. We have our own 200 acre vineyard in South Western Ontario that continuously provides grapes of the highest quality. Some of our award-winning brands include Bricklayer’s, Girls’ Night Out, Lake & River Series, and Colio Premium House.

We also produce awarding winning Craft Beer & Cider under our Thornbury Village Beer & Cider house banner. Our Pick-up Truck Pilsner and Blue Mountain Lager have both won gold at the Ontario Craft Brewing Awards. We also boast the top selling Ontario Craft Cider made from 100% fresh pressed Ontario apples.

We represent a range of international brands such as Warsteiner Brewery from Germany, Cumulus Estate Wines from Australia, Frisky Zebra from South Africa and a number of other international wine suppliers.

As part of our growth and continued success, we require a hands-on individual to assist with the daily management of a large production Vineyard located in Colchester, ON (Essex County). This position will report directly to the Vineyard Manager and will oversee tractor operators and field crews.

Duties and Responsibilities will include but not be limited to;

Plans, directs and coordinates activities of field crews, equipment operators, and contractors in vineyard upkeep activities.

Scouting of the vineyard to monitors crops for insect & disease pressure.

Assist in managing fresh harvest, ice-wine harvest and running of wind machines throughout the year.

Plans and/or implements fungicide & pesticide programs.

Keeps accurate records of pesticide & chemical usage and inventories.

Maintains accurate, timely records of daily event, equipment and work schedules.

Reviews and approves timecard data on a daily basis to ensure accuracy in payroll.

Assists in the preparation of the annual capital expenditure and operating expense budgets and monthly reviews.

Assists in requisitioning, operating and maintaining all tools, equipment and vehicles.

Interprets and enforces company policies to workers and assists in the implementation of employee safety training programs.

Successfully manages people. Provides performance feedback on employees to VM as needed. May help Vineyard Manager with communications, performance, employee relations issues that occur with Vineyard workforce.

Represents Vineyards and Vineyard Manager at meetings in a professional and knowledgeable manner when the VM is not available.

May assist with or conduct tours at vineyard/winery.

Deals with outside vendors,

Works nights and weekends as required throughout the year.

Other duties as assigned.

Interested candidates should possess;

 Degree in Viticulture or related field and/or equivalent, relevant experience is required.

A minimum of two seasons experience in vineyard or winery operations.

Strong communication skills are essential with the ability to speak and write clearly in English. Proficiency in Spanish and/or German is an asset.

Position requires solid computer proficiency and ability to work with company software and programs such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Ag Code.

Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Knows/Learns how to: Calibrate sprayer, set discs, hydraulics, simple repairs, service equipment

Experience operating Machine Harvesters, Mechanical Leafers, OTV Hedgers

Must know how to operate and be able to show others how to operate:

  • Equipment - Wheel Tractor, Quad, Pickup

  • Implements: Disc, Seeder, Mower, Sprayer

 

Work Conditions

Exposure to wet and or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, farming chemicals and fertilizers and seasonal weather conditions.

Overtime and Travel as required

Physical dexterity and stamina required to stand, bend, kneel, climb and walk.

Good physical condition – able to perform repetitive tasks with ability to lift 50 lbs.
