Winery Operations Manager

Reporting to the VP Winemaking the OM will be responsible for executing the overall operations plan in the Production department at Colio Estate Winery in Harrow, Ontario.  The OM will manage the day to day activities in the Production Department, championing a safe work environment, ensuring production targets are met, quality standards are achieved and standard operating procedures are followed at all times. The OM will be an effective leader with a “roll up the sleeves’ attitude to achieve results.

 

The successful applicant will possess the following:

 

• Undergraduate or Technical Degree/Diploma in Operations, Packaging, Maintenance, Automation or Engineering, with an emphasis on Operations Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred progressive experience in a manufacturing, food or beverage (preferably alcoholic beverage) production facility, including experience managing teams and driving results through hands on work with direct reports.
• Advanced computer skills, MS Office, Excel, Relational Databases and Financial Information Systems with emphasis on fully automated Supply Chain Management (SAP an asset)
• Knowledge of beverage or food processing and manufacturing machinery.
• Strong leadership and execution skills with a proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects either inside or outside the work environment.
• Proven commitment to continuous improvement.
• Team player who thrives in a fast paced, high intensity dynamic environment.
• Experience with HAACP or equivalent food safety program implementation and maintenance is an asset.
• Proven commitment to safety with a clean safety record.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The duties will include but not be limited to:

 

• Manage the workflow and performance of employees in the production/maintenance department.
• Develop, implement and report productivity and performance metrics, recommend ways to continually improve these metrics.
• Hold all production personnel accountable to follow strict standard operating procedures throughout the completion of all production operations, providing appropriate levels of initial and follow up training on the SOP’s.
• Ensure maintenance activities in the production department are coordinated with production activities.
• Participate in the development and management of departmental operating and capital budgets.
• Participate in the implementation and installation of capital projects within the winery.
• Work closely with suppliers to ensure quality standards are met while ensuring continuous positive relationships.
• Work closely with the Winemaking, Cellars and Lab departments to ensure the finished goods production schedules are achieved.
• Work cooperatively with the Administration/Retail/Hospitality departments in order to facilitate customer service objectives.
• Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean and organized production department at all times.
• Ensure Winery Health and Safety programs are adhered to.
