The Winemaker coordinates, carries out and reviews all activities involved in the operation of the winery. This position is accountable for the laboratory testing and development of the wines during production up to and including the operation of the bottling line and wine cellar inventory. The Winemaker is responsible for ensuring that all wines meet VQA/LCBO standards along with production requirements and schedules.
•Works with the owner, to identify brand taste profiles and determine wine quantities and styles;
•Assists in developing and implementing ongoing production improvements that use technology and best practices in winemaking to maximize productivity, efficiency and quality;
•Maintains relationships with suppliers, places orders, reviews and files production invoices with the Admin Asst;
•Organizes and supervises all winemaking operations including: grape variety and selection; field sampling; crush pad, cellar operations; laboratory analysis, recordkeeping; innovative winemaking techniques and a high standard of facility hygiene;
•Directs and supervises all aspects of the winery including wine production and bottling, tasting, equipment maintenance, cleaning and administration such as required reports and returns;
•Ensures the production areas are kept clean, tidy and organized;
•Supervises personnel involved in the production of wine;
•Responsible for overseeing LCBO, Grape Growers of Ontario and Revenue Canada audits.
•Attends off-site wine tastings and tradeshows as required;
•Conducts in-service wine training for cellar, tasting and sales staff

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, take the lead as a working member of a group of one to five Vineyard Workers by assigning and explaining work to be performed, helping workers to solve work problems by providing detailed instruction and demonstrations and motivating the group to meet specific quality and quantity standards as assigned; and perform other related duties.
•Leading a seasonal team, in the preparing and cultivating, planting, trellising, weeding, staking, spraying of pesticides, managing grapevine canopy, maintaining grounds, buildings, roads, trails and other facilities; and performing other related duties by:
•Performs related duties, such as driving a light truck to transport employees, tools and materials to job sites, requisitioning and picking up materials and tools, completing accident reports and communicate verbally and in writing to the Operations Manager.

A University Degree in Oenology and Viticulture or a Winemaking and Viticulture Technician Diploma and or a combination of education and experience.
