Qualities and Qualifications
-Degree/Diploma in Oenology and Viticulture
-Experience in cellar operations/management
-Minimum 2 full years experience in winery from crush to bottling
-Must have prior lab technician experience
-Must be familiar with VQA regulations, requests and submissions
-Forklift certification
-Strong computer skills and literate in Microsoft Office
-Skilled in writing reports and data collection
-excellent attention to detail
-ability to handle physical work
-problem solving
-organized
-ability to be self-motivated but able to work well in a team
-excellent communication skills
-willing to work long hours when needed
-cleanliness
-ability to lift 50 pounds
Roles and Responsibilities
-Executing all winemaking associated tasks such as fermentation, barrel work, racking, berry and juice sampling and tasting, sanitation, transfers, preparing wines for bottling
-Organizing shipment of orders and ensuring quality of packing
-Recording daily reports of winery happenings and work completed
-Manage the inventory and supply of winemaking materials
-Management bulk and bottled wine inventory
-Record keeping for bottling, audits etc.
-Carry out, record and organize data for all laboratory analysis (pH, TA, SO2 and using a spectrophotometer for measuring VA, Malic Acid, Residual Sugar, etc.)
-VQA Submissions
-Development of written safety protocols and procedures and implementation of programs
-Preventative maintenance on winery equipment (i.e. press, pumps, sorting tables etc.)
-Sampling and organizing tastings and recording data obtained
-Staying current on industry trends, recommending new techniques and technologies and having a vested interest in furthering knowledge about new scientific developments
-Assist in Vineyard duties when required
-Assist with farm animal duties when required
This is a full-time, salaried position. Remuneration is based on skills and experience.
