Sales and Tasting Room Manager (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

A hidden gem in the heart of BC’s exciting new Thompson Valley wine region, Privato is a family owned boutique winery dedicated to the production of traditional Burgundian styled wine.  Handcrafted in small quantities, Privato offers among the best of BC in small lot Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Privato is seeking an energetic and qualified individual to join our team in a position, which includes the joint responsibilities of Sales and Tasting Room Manager and Marketing and Events Coordinator. This role is the critical contact point for all “Direct to Consumer” sales at the winery and is integral to the exceptional level of unique and welcoming winery experience that we currently provide to our wine clients.  The successful candidate will handle all day to day operations in the Tasting Room along with coordinating and attending events both on and off site. The candidate will possess strong sales skills that will naturally grow wine club and tasting room sales to targeted levels.  The successful candidate may have a University degree in tourism, hospitality or marketing or they may have a wealth of experience in exceptional customer service, sales, retail merchandising or hospitality. Strong administrative and computer skills are required however the most important attribute is the ability to communicate effectively with guests and staff alike with a great personality.   Must be versatile, flexible, enthusiastic and have a willingness to “pitch-in” in a constantly changing environment.

This position will be full time 4-5 days per week although we are open to part time from January to March. 

Key Responsibilities:

 

- Sales and Tasting Room Manager

·      Provide an exemplary tasting room guest experience including hosting wine tastings, tours and sharing knowledge about our wines

·      Achieving targets for sales growth

·      Manage a team of seasonal tasting room staff including hiring, scheduling, training, and supervision

·      Manage the wine shop including planning, ordering and stocking of wine accessories and supplies for picnics

·      Conduct winery tours for visitors, wine club members and VIP guests

·      Promptly reply to tasting appointment inquiries and schedule appointments

·      Working closely and cooperatively with wine tour companies

·      Develop and manage relationships with LRS and Licensee clients

 

- Wine Club Manager

·      Providing exceptional professional customer service to all current and prospective wine club members

.      Prompt replies to enquiries and issues

·      Achieving targets for wine club growth

·      Maintaining wine club database

·      Creating wine club collateral material

·      Executing quarterly wine club shipments including ordering supplies, creating waybills, packaging, and follow-up

·      Marketing wine club to tasting room visitors and other initiatives

·      Maintaining the online web store and facilitating online shipping

- Events Manager

·      Plan, coordinate and attend events at the winery, locally and in key markets

.      Attend pouring events outside of the winery to build Privato’s brand

·      Assist with all marketing activities including writing newsletters, social media and maintaining customer database

·      Liaise with the Marketing Coordinator to plan, develop and promote all events

 

Education and Qualifications

·      University degree in the field of tourism, hospitality, marketing or events coordinator is an asset

·      Formal Wine Education is an asset but not required

·      Solid sales experience with proven ability to grow sales

·      Must be available to work weekends, holidays and evenings and be open and flexible throughout the duration of the season

·      Solid time management skills, with the ability to manage time, staff and priorities and be willing to work long hours when necessary

·      Serving It Right Certificate

·      Food Safe Certificate is an asset

·      Must be able to stand for long periods of time

·      Must be able to lift and carry 45 lbs with ease multiple times per day

·      Project a polished and professional outward image in both dress and manners 

·      Ability to work with and manage a team but also work independently

·      Efficient worker and ability to problem solve

·      Comfortable presenting in front of large group
