Looking for an exciting career opportunity to help develop our new hard cider? The new BC Tree Fruits Cider Company is currently seeking a motivated, organized individual to join our team as a Cidery Supervisor. Our ideal candidate will have previous supervisory experience as well as have worked within the cidery/winery/brewery industry.
The BC Tree Fruits Cooperative (BCTFC) is owned by fruit growers throughout the entire Okanagan Valley, employs approximately 500 employees, and operates multiple facilities. Representing over 500 growers, we market fresh tree fruits including, apples, pears, cherries, peaches, nectarines, plums, prunes and grapes.
The successful applicant will have the following key accountabilities:
- Managing juice pressing operation periods
- Be involved in cellar operations, including fermentation, racking, transfers, blending and filtration
- Liaise with lab technicians and winemaking team
- Supervising and running the canning line during canning periods
- Supervising cidery production staff to reduce downtime and increase output levels
- Troubleshooting mechanical issues and make recommendations to Cidery Manager as needed
- Ensuring fill-rates and output requirements are met
- Responsible for ensuring proper sanitation requirements and quality needs are met and exceeded as well as health and safety protocols are being strictly adhered to
- Effectively communicate and build strong relationships with store supervisors, internal sales and cidery team
The successful applicant will be qualified by possessing the following key attributes:
- Prior cellar/bottle shop experience with demonstrated supervisor aptitude
- Knowledge of winery or beverage processing equipment, bottling filters, safety equipment, standard processing procedures and safety practices
- Possess strong mechanical knowledge and have ability to troubleshoot various machines-Millwright certificate considered an asset
- Completion of Cellar and Winemaking courses, Wine Ambassador course or Sommelier/WSET Certificate is an asset
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving abilities
- Related training and/or College/University education will be considered an asset
- Demonstrated team player with the ability to work under high pressure situations
- Good understanding of business and accounting/inventory/cost control practices
- Must possess a passion of cider/ wine and the industry
- Results-oriented attitude
- Must be able to work flexible work hours and overtime if needed
- Must be physically able to perform all aspects of the position including ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
