We are seeking a quality focused, detail oriented Winemaker VQA to join the Western Winemaking team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day VQA winemaking at the Kelowna facility and ongoing spec development for the VQA program. The ideal candidate will be a results oriented team player with a desire to promote improved wine quality, efficiencies, and cost reduction.

The successful candidate will be accountable for:

  • Executing all winemaking activities in conjunction with the Grape Supply Manager, Winemakers VQA/ICB, including but not limited to harvest planning and logistics, vineyard selection and field sampling, grape quality assessment and determination of process stream allocation.
  • Executing all winemaking activities in conjunction with Cellar Manager and Winemakers VQA/ICB, as well as actively pursue cost savings and efficiencies within the VQA program. These activities include but are not limited to, SOP creation and management, crush, fermentation management, lab analysis, barrel and inventory management and blending/stabilization/filtration in accordance with bottling schedule.
  • Executing all winemaking activities with Winemaker VQA/ICB relating to product development and improvement initiatives, capital planning, procurement and equipment commissioning support, setting and revising product specifications and determining the winemaking process required to deliver the agreed to specs.
  • Working in conjunction with the corporate winemaking team to manage the VQA program nationally, actively participate in tastings and sensory panels, determine and conduct experiments and projects, actively work to expand upon an award winning program and actively promotes improvements in winemaking.
  • Supporting public relations events as requested and directed.
  • Participate as a member of the National Oenology team.
  • Following safe work procedures and practices and reports all unsafe working conditions/hazards to their reporting Manager.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications/skills:

  • B.Sc. degree in Oenology and Viticulture.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in cellar operations.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in vineyard operations.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, HACCP, and ISO an asset.
  • Proven ability to successfully work in a fast paced, high stress environment .
  • Able to meet deadlines while managing conflicting priorities and maintaining a high level of detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve program as they arise in a calm and scientific approach.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
