Devonian Coast Wineries owns and operates three distinctly different award-winning wineries in Nova Scotia, Canada with total production of well over 100,000 cases per year.

Jost Vineyards produces world-class wines from some of the most distinctive premium-quality grapes in North America. Our winemaking and viticulture teams believe the best wines are made in the vineyard. They are responsible for the production and processing of grapes from over 200 acres spread across several distinct vineyards throughout Nova Scotia. With sustainable practices that ensure care for the environment, we are committed to growing our diverse portfolio through thoughtful and progressive viticulture practices.

 

The Opportunity.

We are looking for an Assistant Vineyard Manager at Jost Vineyards in Malagash Nova Scotia.

 

Successful candidates are/have:

·      passion for producing quality fruit and quality wine

·      highly motivated and have a strong work ethic

·      mulit-taskers and can work well in a team

·      motivated and passionate about delivering excellent results

·      able to perform physical-demanding work on a regular basis

·      able to lift 50 lbs. and are able to work at heights  

·      willing to work long hours including weekends seasonally

 

Job description and responsibilities:

·     Work under the direction and supervision of our Director of Viticulture and Vineyard Manager.

·    Coordinate a harvest schedule with the Director of Winemaking ensuring that labour and resources are available to ensure a timely harvest.

·    Direct our crew leaders. Help with the training and development of vineyard labourers.

·    Collaborate and execute on a comprehensive vineyard plan, with quality being the primary goal but with cost effectiveness in mind. Key quality control measures, standard operating procedures, and best practices must be developed and implemented.

·    Collaborate on and maintain a budget under the guidance of the Director of Viticulture.  

·    Schedule and oversee safety program for vineyard workers.

·    Work alongside the crew, engaging in every manner of vineyard task, including but not limited to: pruning, tying, tucking, planting, spraying, weeding, mowing, general tractor work, irrigation, and harvesting.

·    Ensure the highest level of cleanliness and organization is maintained in all workspaces at all times.

 

Prerequisites:

  • At least three years of vineyard experience, preferably in a supervisory position and in a cool climate region.
  • Preference given to candidates with post secondary training in Viticulture.
  • Mechanical aptitude, tractor experiences a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, with the ability to learn and utilize vineyard software.

 

Pay Structure:

  • Commensurate with experience
