Job Summary:

The primary function of this role is to motivate, mentor and develop our sales team.  The Sales Manager is directly responsible for ensuring that each sales person successfully attains and over-achieves quarterly and annual sales objectives and takes an active role in the personal development of each team member.  This position has an integral role in driving sales and taking the lead on the creation of successful strategies that the team can effectively execute in the field.  The Sales Manager will rely on quantitative data and qualitative observations and feedback to develop right-fit strategies.  This management role embraces, communicates and helps cultivate a positive company culture and empowers the team to achieve new heights of success.  The Sales Manager represents our company, sales team and brands with pride and effectively conveys their passion for fine wines & spirits as well as their individual drive for success as part of a dynamic and driven team.  It is recommended that the Sales Manager devote 3 days to field work and 2 days admin (this is self-managed and will change depending on changing business needs).

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Lead the team to the successful attainment of their quarterly G&T and annual KPIs – ensure ownership from each Sales Representative;

  2. Develop strategic and innovative sales programs, relying on the analysis of quantitative data and qualitative feedback/personal observations to arrive at right fit solutions that effectively address short and long term challenges;

  3. Track and measure the sales team regularly to ensure that programs are being effectively executed and the team is on target;

  4. Conduct quarterly Sales & Marketing meetings and quarterly progress meetings as needed with support of VP/GM;

  5. Support each individual team member’s growth; ensure that the right resources are made available to facilitate progression and development;

  6. Develop and manage regional chain accounts with VP/GM guidance and support;

  7. Manage channel strategy implementation, including retail distribution, on-trade placement, and grocery

  8. Implement merchandising standards for sales team.  Continually measure and develop standards as the retailers evolve;

  9. Ensure that VINTAGES and one-time buy sell-through objectives are achieved;

  10. Be a liaison and key point of contact for sales with our suppliers – representing our iconic portfolio and sales team with pride;

  11. Be a TEAM liaison – rally behind the office team and be the communicator of brand objectives and updates to the field; 

  12. Ensure that CHABLIS is adopted and integrated into daily call routines by the entire sales team;

  13. Manage sales A&P spend and work with Brand Managers to secure adequate budget dollars to grow the retail and on-trade business; 

  14. Work with sales team to forecast territory growth and align on annual growth objectives;

  15. Management of consignment sales program;

  16. Coordinate the procurement of support material for field use;

 

Job Requirements:

 

Experience: University degree and/or minimum of 5-7 years sales experience, 2 years sales supervisor or sales manager experience.  Supervisory or team lead experience in a related or complimentary field.

 

Skills: Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be self-motivated. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.  Must be highly organized, and display excellent motivation and leadership abilities.  Should have good PC skills (Windows: Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and be able to extensively use the CH/AWSM web based applications for sales and planning activities.  Must be able to juggle multiple situations and able to work independently.

 

Knowledge:  Working knowledge of alcoholic beverages, with special attention to fine wines.  Successful completion of several wine and spirit courses is required (such as WSET) and a desire to continue your personal development by continuing to take business and wine courses.

 

Physical: Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and travel (includes overnight stays).  Must be physically fit and be able to lift and carry 41+ pounds and able to build displays or handle heavy POS material.

 

Other: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s licence.  Must have and maintain a valid Canadian Passport. Extensive previous selling experience, existing trade relationships, people management, marketing, public relations, restaurant/wine/food experience, retail and/or event special event planning experience are assets.

 

Base salary plus incentive bonus, car allowance and benefits commensurate with experience. Business related expenses are also covered
