Full-time 40 hours a week but flexibility required during harvest

Avondale Sky Winery is one of the newest wineries in the dynamic Nova Scotia wine industry.  We are in search of an enthusiastic person to assist our team in the production of exceptional wine. Working closely with the winemaker, this member of the team will have an opportunity to enhance their skill in all vineyard, cellar, and retail tasks.  Since great wine begins in the vineyard, they will assist in maintaining the highest standards of quality at all stages.

The position involves vineyard, retail sales work, and winemaking in the cellar on a day-to-day basis, depending on the season. During the summer, the duties will be primarily in the vineyard, ensuring the best quality and appropriate quantity grapes are grown.  After harvest most duties will be centered on the Winery.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The successful candidate will be mentored in, and responsible for, the following principal tasks: 

• Carry out all vineyard activities including machine and hand work
• Carry out cellar operation in accordance with instruction from the winemaker including but not limited to: wine movements and additions, sanitation and maintenance, crush activities, pump-overs and punch downs,press operations, barrel work, blending, filtration, basic lab tests, product development, bottling and warehousing
• Communicate with winemaker with regard to wine status and work progress
• Responsible for a detail-oriented cellar record-keeping
• Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental, and safety regulatory considerations

• Assist with some aspects of on-site and farmers’ market retail including tastings, tours, marketing, merchandising and sales.


QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION

 

• Enrollment in, or graduation from, a winery & viticulture or oenology program
• Passion and desire to produce superb quality wines
• Ability to contribute to a team effort with enthusiasm
• Excellent communication skills. Positive, self-motivated and able to work efficiently
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to present information effectively
• Ability to define problems, establish facts, draw conclusions and solve problems
• English language proficiency is essential
• Highly organized
• Ability to lift 50 lbs, fit through a standard man-way tank door, and work under different climatic conditions
• Must possess valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Compensation
 will be determined based upon the successful candidate’s qualifications.
