The Assistant Winemaker helps the Winemaker ensure that Avondale Sky Winery produces the highest possible quality of wine and that efficiency is optimized in the utilization of all available resources, such as labour, equipment & materials.

Key Job Functions:

 

Working closely with winemaker, vineyard manager and hospitality manager, the Assistant Winemaker’s principal tasks include:

1. Working with the vineyard team, carrying out all vineyard activities including machine and hand work

2. Carrying out cellar operations in accordance with instruction from the winemaker including but not limited to wine movements and additions, maintaining barrels, sanitation and maintenance, crush activities, pump-overs and press operations, racking, barrel work, blending, filtrations, bottling and warehousing

3. Communicating with winemaker with regard to wine status and work progress

4. Responsible for a detail-oriented cellar record-keeping

5. Running laboratory tests

6. Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations

7. Assisting with all aspects of on-site and farmers’ market retail including tastings, tours, marketing, merchandising and sales

8. Other duties which may be required from time to time.

 

 

 

Organization Structure:

The Vice President, Winemaker, Hospitality Manager, and Vineyard Manager report to the President.  The Assistant Winemaker reports to the Winemaker. The vineyard labour reports directly to the Vineyard Manager.  At times, the Assistant Winemaker will respond to the direct supervision of the Vineyard Manager or the Hospitality Manager.
