Retail Manager - Operations (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

We are currently seeking a Retail Manager - Operations who will be responsible for managing a team of approximately 30 part time retail team members and ensuring operational excellence at Trius Winery. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, team oriented and comfortable with having a hands-on approach in the day to day operation of the business. There will be a requirement to work evenings and weekends to support tours/experiences/functions/events when necessary.

The successful candidate will be accountable for:

• Collaborating with the Retail Manager Wine Experience to develop and execute business strategies.
• Managing gross margin, operating expenses and capital expenditures to within budgeted levels.
• Accounting control including inventory control, bank reconciliation and cash management/reconciliation.
• Business analysis of Trius retail monthly profit and loss (P&L) statements and industry/consumer trends.
• Assisting with the development of (Estate Wine Group) Retail Operational policies and managing seamless execution of same for Trius retail team.
• Providing training, leadership and coaching to direct reports to ensure performance/talent/service excellence among all team members; recognizing when to engage Human Resources to assist with performance concerns.
• Ensuring store equipment and fixtures meet retail operational requirements; managing process of maintenance or replacement of same when/where required.
• Ensuring a high level of customer care and hospitality excellence as measured by guest surveys and destination rating services; responding efficiently and effectively to guest concerns/complaints.
• Ensuring a Safe and Healthy Work Environment through the effective operation of the Health and Safety program and Joint Health and Safety Committee and ensure compliance with government regulations.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications/skills: 

• 2 5 years of retail management experience, preferably in a Hospitality/Tourism or luxury retail environment.
• University/College graduate, preferably from a Business/Marketing or Hospitality/Tourism Management program
• Wine product knowledge a definite asset.
• Proven people leadership, coaching, listening and communication abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs with a focus on Word and Excel.
• Strong project management experience with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Able to successfully manage a variety of changing priorities and responsibilities.
• Ability to work varied shifts, including weekends when required.
