Palatine Hills Estate Winery is a 50,000 case winery located in beautiful Niagara on the Lake, Ontario Canada. This position reports to the General Manager and works in conjunction with the Vineyard Manager and Retail Manager
Essential Duties - including but not limited to
- Directs operations in the cellar from harvest to bottle to produce wines of the highest quality
- Develops and implements standard winemaking operating procedures for safety, cleanliness and efficiency in the cellar
- Manages a crew of 1-2 cellarhands
- Complete all paper work for VQA,GGO
- Knowledge of VQA standards and submission procedures
- Help to ensure accurate bulk and bottled inventory on and offsite
- Aid the development and marketing of wine packaging
- Orders, keep inventory, and track all usage or supplies, chemicals, and equipment in the winery
- Oversees the upkeep and maintenance of winery equipment and schedules appropriate service when required
- Assists in educating Retail Staff on general questions in regards to tasting descriptors, winemaking and viticulture practices
- Conducts occasional tours of the facility and educates winery guests about winemaking and viticulture
- Attends occasional events at the winery or offsite after regular work hours, the winemaker is an extension of our brand
- Works with Vineyard Manager to determine yield and grape quality in vineyard and evaluates winery production need for each variety
- Helps to ensure the quality of grapes purchased on intake
- Follows and has an understanding of Environmental standards set by the Ontario Government and Winery
- Understands, enforces and teaches winemaking standard operating procedures to winemaking staff
- Ensures the safety of winemaking staff and guests by maintaining a safe clean and secure cellar
- Ensures Compliance with Ontario’s Workplace Health and Safety regulations
Skills, Experience, Abilities
- 5 years winemaking experience
- Strong lab skills
- Winemaking Degree or Diploma
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Computer skills (excel)
- Forklift License
Immediate Start Date
This is a full time salaried position. Salary to commensurate with experience. Potential for employee benefit package.
