Fine Vintage - for a winery client
Okanagan,
British Columbia
James Cluer MW and Marcus Ansems MW are leading the development of an exciting new winery project in the Okanagan Valley for a client.
Our client is a successful property development company with a long-established business in B.C., Seattle and China building residential multi-unit complexes and cities for 100,000+ people.
Our business plan is to build a benchmark showpiece winery/cellar door in the northern Okanagan designed by a famous architect, have an efficient production facility at a location TBD, and a tasting room at our vineyards in the southern Okanagan. The compact and focused portfolio will be themed and will focus on premium wines whilst remaining sales driven. Details will be disclosed to appropriate candidates.
Additionally, our client has already purchased a waterfront property in Kelowna where they will build a multi-unit condo complex with links to the winery business. This position will also be responsible for assisting with the oversight of this project.
We are searching for a General Manager/Winemaker, which is a single position, and the most senior in the company. We are looking for a talented individual to lead this project, assisted by James and Marcus. This position will likely be from a home-based office for the next 1-2 years.
The required skills are:
-Must be a University trained Winemaker with at least 10 years experience making premium wines.
-Must have experience as a General Manager or have run a business.
-Must have experience in winery architectural design and construction.
-Must currently reside in the Okanagan and have an understanding of the terroirs, industry, key players, the market, and legal.
-Must be able to write business plans and create budgets.
-Must be detail-orientated, hard-working, reliable and efficient.
-Must be able to help build and manage a team.
-Must be able to oversee a Marketing and Sales Director who will be responsible for all front of house activities.
-Must be willing to travel to China occassionally, where we plan to build another winery.
-Must be available to start before end 2017.
The compensation will be attractive to the right candidate.
