Position duration: 1 year minimum.
We are seeking a full-time person to start this Summer, before our winemaker takes maternity leave this Autumn. This is an opportunity for a dedicated cellar person with some education and a spectacular work ethic to gain valuable leadership experience and work with some of the best red grapes in the valley.
C.C. Jentsch Cellars is a 10,000 case family winery in Oliver, BC, with 64 acres of vines planted to 90% red and 10% white varietals. We are exclusively estate production with vineyards located at and near production facility. Our proprietor is our grower!
Description: working with our grower, outgoing winemaker, and winemaking consultant (on an as-needed basis) you will:
At Harvest:
- Sample and analyse berries and musts
- Receive and weigh fruit, organize and run the processing line, calculate and add necessary additions
- Inoculate musts and be in charge of fermentation management including pumpovers and punchdowns
- Prioritize and delegate work to cellar assistants
- Set pressing schedule, monitor and separate press fractions for quality
- Set barrel management schedule
- Perform all lab analysis of musts and wines in-house
Post Harvest:
- Regularly monitor, analyze, rack, adjust, and top wine vessels
- Prepare wines for bottling as needed
- Maintain accurate records for VQA submissions, excise reporting, and wine movements
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and cellar hygiene.
- Participate in blending and tasting trials
You will be an integral part of our 2016 vintage, and your passion and hard work will have a direct influence on these wines. Therefore, while greater levels of education and experience are absolutely an asset, and will commensurately affect compensation, if you have an intense work ethic, meticulously follow instruction, and learn quickly, we encourage you to apply.
