JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently recruiting for a detail orientated, quality and safety focused, team player who is self-motivated and goal driven to fill the position of Cellar Supervisor based out of our Oliver, BC Production Facility.

Constellations Brands’ Oliver Production Facility / Winery is a full service operation from harvest through to final distribution; operating year round and producing some of the industry’s most awarded wines. THE ROLE

As Cellar Supervisor you will be responsible for supervision of the VQA and Commercial cellars in order to facilitate all cellar operations, meet production schedules, quality and cost objectives. Directs activities in the areas of cellar operations, machinery operation, employee development, ISO/ HACCP standards and Health and Safety policies and procedures. Determines requirements for sundries and equipment needs in the Cellar, and in conjunction with Winemaking, manpower resources. In cooperation with Winemaking, develops and administers policies and procedures to ensure production and quality control standards are achieved.

Your key responsibilities and duties are as follows:

  • Supervises cellar production by efficiently facilitating all work orders prepared by Winemaking/Commercial Product Administrator in an organized, prioritized and safe manner. 
  • Ensures work orders are completed correctly and signed off. 
  • Liaise with Winemaking on a daily and weekly basis, keeping them informed of any issues. 
  • Ensures blends are available to meet the production schedule. 
  • Ensures proper sundries, supply inventories and cellar equipment parts are maintained to meet the requirements of the Cellar. 
  • In cooperation with the Maintenance Supervisor ensures that all cellar equipment functions and is maintained to meet OEM specifications. 
  • In cooperation with Winemaking, assists with the annual department budgets and ensures targets are achieved through efficient production execution and necessary internal controls. 
  • Leads implementation and operation of ISO & HACCP standards to ensure corporate objectives are met. Participates in associated committees.   Also serves on committees associated with on-going production improvement processes and products.  Maintains Auditor status and is functional in the Compliant Pro system. 
  • Ensures a safe work environment & safety orientated culture.  Serves on committees associated with on-going Health & Safety improvement processes.  Is responsible for implementation of new policies and procedures and all H&S activities within the Cellar. 
  • Leads process improvements to reduce waste and other processes associated with environment preservation. 
  • Maintains positive employee relations. Oversees staff and ensures adequate training for operations and H&S of all employees within the department.  
  • Schedules staff to meet the work load in the Cellar and facilitates vacation requests. 
  • Conducts informal 6 month and formal yearly performance appraisals of Cellar staff. 
  • In conjunction with Winemaking, screens and hires Cellar and Vintage staff. 
  • Is accountable for wine quality and consistently achieves the highest standards throughout the production process. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Post Graduate Certificate or Degree in Oenology and Viticulture 
  • 2+ years winery cellar/vineyard experience 
  • 2+ years previous experience managing or supervising a team 
  • Strong understanding and ability to use technology 
  • Valid Forklift Operator Certificate an Asset 
  • Level I or II First Aid Certificate an Asset 
  • Strong commitment to quality with attention to detail. 
  • Results orientated with an ability to prioritize 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Candidate must be hands on, dependable, and self-starting. 
  • Good problem solving abilities along with basic logistic skills required. 
  • Knowledge of safe cellar practices, including safe handling of chemicals. 
  • Ability to be trained in confined space entry process and procedures. 
  • Knowledge of winery cellar operating procedures. 
  • Teamwork and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to work shift work including weekends   
  • Ability to understand and perform mathematic calculations. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  • Maintain an organized work place. 
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs.
