POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine laboratory operations in a quality assurance setting. Duties usually consist of making measurements, performing several routine quantitative and qualitative biological or chemical analytical tests, performing routine calculations and determinations on tests and evaluating physical characteristics. Uses standard laboratory glassware and equipment on complex pieces of equipment. Some judgment is applied to interpreting test results against limits and in performing inspections.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up and conduct Chemical and Microbiological analysis of fermenting, bulk and finished wines. Testing include Titrations, pH, distillations, NIR, AA, enzymatic, turbidity, spectrophotometry, conductivity
- Operate, Calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Accurate preparation of solution, reagents
- Accurately record results, apply to specifications and report deviations
- Work with, trouble shoot and calibrate various equipment: auto analyzers (NIR), Atomic absorption, density meters, pH meters etc.
- Analysis of effluent
- Some Component(packaging) inspections
- Participate in problem solving and improvement projects.
- Cleaning and maintain the laboratory to ensure a safe work environment
- Maintain and order consumables in a timely and cost effective manner
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post secondary education in Chemical Engineering, Chemical technologist/technician or related disciplines
- Experience in routine laboratory testing environment.
- Exposure to Production environment, preferably in a Food and Beverage environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of ISO and HACCP
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / OTHER
- Must be able sit and/or stand for long periods of time, and work on a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 55 lbs regularly.
- Flexibility to work various shifts.
