Road 13 Vineyards is a quality driven, ultra-premium winery located on the Golden Mile Bench in Oliver, British Columbia. Our product portfolio is one of the most awarded in the Okanagan wine region. The Vineyards
Our five meticulous estate vineyards amount to just over 60 acres under vine. Of these, four are located on the Golden Mile Bench and one is on the opposing Black Sage Bench. Our focus on blended wines means that we work with a wide array of varietals, including the full suite of Southern Rhone and Bordeaux whites and reds as well as other specialties such as Chenin Blanc. This provides viticulturists with the invaluable opportunity to broaden their grape variety experience across the board.
Role and Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Owner, the Vineyard Manager has overarching responsibility for the day to day operation and ongoing management of the Road 13 Vineyards. This includes:
· Leading and mentoring a crew of local & Mexican workers
· Supervising all reports and ensuring they are provided with appropriate training, protective equipment, procedures and instructions to remain safe in their working environment at all times
· Scheduling daily activities of personnel and their use of vineyard equipment to optimise efficiency and quality control across the vineyard sites
· Managing preventative and reparative maintenance for all vineyard equipment including irrigation and fertilization systems, tractors and other vehicles
· Ensuring spraying, fertilization and irrigation conforms to the standards advised by the owner which will always be above and beyond those regulated by the province of British Columbia
· Preparing and adhering to a seasonal operations plan, including operational and capital expenditure budgeting
· Providing regular reports to the Owner and Winemaker regarding vineyard condition and ongoings
· Building upon the current vineyard standards utilising known and new technologies and techniques, in consultation with the Owner and Winemaker
· Recruiting and training new staff, both permanent and temporary harvest workers
Skills
As an integral member of the management team at Road 13 Vineyards, the Vineyard Manager will need to demonstrate an alignment to the company philosophy and values. Further to this, the following attributes are vital for success in the role:
· Strong understanding of viticulture as it pertains to the Okanagan region as well as how this region fits in the broader context of the North American and global wine industries
· Impeccable communication skills, including clear delivery of instructions (Spanish skills advantageous)
· Computer literate with the ability to work with the Microsoft Office suite
· Excellent time management skills and ability to work to tight and changing deadlines and budgets
· Demonstrated ability to lead a team and inspire others
· Broad vineyard experience overseas?
Qualifications and Experience
The following qualifications will be advantageous for applicants to possess. Please ensure you can provide evidence if required:
· Minimum 3 years previous vineyard management experience
· Viticulture education
· BC Farm Licences
