Intersection Winery is seeking a cellar hand for the 2015 harvest and crush.
Intersection is small and forward-thinking, well-equipped and dedicated to producing small lots of quality wines that express a sense of place.
The cellar hand will assist the winemaker with all operations from pre-harvest fruit sampling, through crush, fermentations and barrel work. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in a broad variety of winemaking, cellar, and vineyard operations.
Duties include:
Fruit sampling and analysis
Receiving, weighing, sorting fruit
Operating pumps, destemmer, press
Racking
Fermentation management: daily sampling, pumpovers, punchdowns
Tasting/sensory evaluation of musts/wines
Winery cleanup and sanitation
Vineyard operations
The ideal candidate will be passionate about wine, inquisitive, and enthusiastic. Attention to detail, organization and good communication are crucial to the effectiveness of our small team.
This is a physically demanding job involving bending, lifting, ladders, outdoor conditions, some weekends, early and late hours.
Relevant training or experience are ideal, but on-the-job training will also be provided.
Forklift experience/certification is an asset.
Accommodation and transportation are not provided. The candidate is responsible for lodging/mobility. Minimum BC Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent is required.
The successful candidate would also be considered for continued employment for the balance of the year : general viticulture, cellar work, and bottling.
