ASSISTANT WINEMAKER/ WINEMAKER
Job Description:
Our Estate Winery is a very prestigious and successful winery operating between Oliver and Osoyoos, B.C. in Canada. From the spectacular terroir on our 40 acre estate vineyard, our winery has been passionately hand- crafting exceptional wines for over 15 years. This includes some of the highest regarded brands in the industry. Thanks to our success we have a position available for the right individual to come and join our passionate and fun-loving winery team.
We are currently recruiting for the position of Assistant Winemaker. This is a full-time year-round position that would commence immediately. The position will work closely with and report directly to the Winemaker of the Winery. This Assistant Winemaker will also work very closely with our Cellarhand, our Vineyard Management and Operations team.
The Assistant Winemaker is a very hands-on role with the Estate Winery and will be involved in a myriad of tasks throughout the course of the winemaking year. This includes lots of cleaning and washing as we are a fastidiously clean winemaking operation. The Assistant Winemaker must be available and enthusiastic about working weekends and evenings from middle of September to middle of November each year.

The Assistant Winemaker will have the opportunity to learn extensively and to be involved in all aspects of the winemaking operation at the Estate Winery. This will come in the form of both hands-on learning and financial support for outside learning in conferences and courses. For the right candidate, there is also plenty of opportunity for future promotion and further responsibilities within this dynamic, fast-moving, entrepreneurial business.
Skills and Responsibilities
• Overseeing the day to day running of winery operations with guidance from our Winemaker, who is frequently on the road.
• Organize, plan and execute winery tasks on a daily basis, including monitoring of all tanks of wine in cellar.
• Delegate work orders to Cellarhand and seasonal employees and pitch in to help wherever necessary
• Monitoring progress of barrel aging and performing lab analysis where necessary
• Oversee and perform all cellar work in a hands on manner for all aspects from racking to filtration.
• Work side by side with our Cellarhand and Winemaker on all cellar work
• Cleaning tanks, barrels, equipment etc.
• Calculate and perform all addition on all tanks
• A myriad of other winemaking tasks, Lab and Administration
• Manage Lab and perform all lab work
• Calculate and trial all blending/bench trials
• Maintain Lab equipment, order supplies, reagents
• Etc.
Qualifications
• A certificate or degree in Oenology/Winemaking from an accredited academic institution.
• Minimum 3 years working experience in other winery environments
• Physically strong & capable of hands-on working in a winery environment.
• Highly driven, ambitious personality with a strong track record.
• Lab experience, while not essential, would be beneficial.
Hours of work and compensation
This is a full-time, year-round position and will offer significant educational opportunities.
Compensation will be in the form of an attractive salary, bonus, extended health & dental benefits and educational allowances. Total compensation package will be commensurate with experience.
