Role Overview

Support the Vineyard manager to management of specific vineyard acreage in the Okanagan Valley towards quality, yield and cost targets.  Motivate the vineyard team to achieve quality and yield targets for vineyard blocks, and wine types.   Demonstrate leadership, & best practices in staff training, motivation & the OH&S program.

Responsibilities

·         Train the team on best practice and process and work alongside the vineyard laborers to plant, prune, sucker, thin, spray, and harvest. 

·         Work collaboratively with the Viticulture Technical team, ensuring work orders are received, processed and executed to quality and time standards.

·         Organize and supervise the vineyard laborers to complete vineyard work orders within quality and time standards.

·         Monitor irrigation requirements and ensure the irrigation program is followed by the Irrigators, as instructed by the Vineyard Manager and Viticulture Team.

·         Train the team to operate machinery and equipment, including but not limited to tractors, sprayers, harvesters.

·         Manage the team to execute all work orders within the budget guidelines

·         Participate as a member of the Health & Safety committee, including acquiring first aid certification if required

·         Effectively manage the work crews to ensure that the best person is assigned to each job, their performance is monitored and feedback and coaching is delivered for continuous improvement.

·         Attend and contribute to the monthly management team meeting ensuring communication between vineyard locations and departments is clear.

·         Execute administrative processes for employees and recordkeeping, including payroll, timesheets, and new hire paperwork.

·         Execute administrative requirements for vineyard tracking processes in the “PAM AUSVIT” vineyard tracking system.

·         Ensure compliance of site operations with company policy and Federal and Provincial regulations (Employment Standards, WCB regulations, Human Rights Code, etc).

·         Champion a safe and healthy work environment for employees, through eliminating hazards, training employees and promoting safety awareness. 

 

Position Requirements

·         3+ years’ experience leading and training vineyard teams and continuously improving growing practices.

·         5+ years operating vineyard equipment including tractor, sprayer, ATV.

·         Solid knowledge of all vineyard procedures and practices including planting, pruning, and picking, irrigation, IPM, and plant nutrition.

·         Proven knowledge of irrigation best practices.

·         Solid verbal and written English communication skills (Second language Punjabi an asset)

·         Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driving record.

·         Valid Pesticide Applicators License or ability to obtain.

·         Valid First Aid Level 1 or ability to obtain

·         Good technical skills, ability to use a Computer and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
