ASSISTANT WINEMAKER

 

Encore Vineyards Ltd. is looking for a passionate and motived individual to join the winemaking team in beautiful Penticton, British Columbia.

 

A bit about us…ENCORE Vineyards Ltd., a progressive Okanagan-based company, is home to a number of wine brands, providing a host of wines and hospitality service.  The ENCORE team is led by president and CEO Harry McWatters, a 48-year veteran of the British Columbia wine industry and the company is known for its labels including TIME Winery, Evolve Cellars and McWatters Collection. In 2016, ENCORE Vineyards expands, with new projects that further celebrate the spirit of the South Okanagan.

 

Qualifications


BSc Oenology/Viticulture or related subject


Job Description (Inclusive but not limited to)


Viticulture related:
• Liaise with Director of Winemaking & Grower Community, who manage planting programs, cultivation and production of grapes
• Aid in co-ordination of tasks between vineyard and winery


Cellar related:
• Oversee daily operations of cellar and lab in order to meet production requirements and schedules
• Monitor and maintain cleanliness of lab and cellar and ensure regular maintenance of equipment is performed
• Supervise cellar personnel involved in the production of wine
• Generation and maintenance of written procedures for cellar operations and equipment operation


Laboratory related:
• Conduct various laboratory tests to monitor the processing of grapes and wine, ensuring quality
• Organize the crushing and pressing of grapes, the settling of juice and fermentation
• Examine grape samples for maturity pre-harvest and during harvest


Bottling related:
• Coordinate wine in barrel or tanks for storage and maturation
• Prepare plans for bottling ensuring quality is maintained before, during and after bottling
• Liaise with marketing and sales staff to ensure the production of appropriate wine types, styles and quality are achieved
