Head Winemaker (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Full Time

  Fine Vintage Ltd. (http://www.finevintageltd.com)

  Southern Okanagan, British Columbia

James Cluer MW is in charge of developing a major new winery business in the southern Okanagan. This is the most exciting new winery development project in Canada.

We have purchased the most awarded vineyard in Canada. It is located on the Black Sage bench in the Oliver region next to Black Hills and Burrowing Owl.

There are 60 acres planted, and we have also purchased the neighbouring trophy vineyard Phantom Creek, which has won Best Red wine in Canada 3 times. We have also purchased land on the coast and intend to develop an additional winery there.

There is currently a 1/4 built winery on the property. A team of 25 of the leading experts in North America has been assembled and is diligently working on development plans. This includes a famed Napa architect, the leading construction company in BC, winemakers who have built and developed cult Napa wineries and garnered 100 point scores, expert viticulturalists from the Okanagan and California, 3 Masters of Wine, and so on.

We are looking for an extremely talented and experienced Head Winemaker to be in charge of Production for the long term.

The volume is a long term target of 50,000 cases based on a focused portfolio of 2 white varieties and the Bordeaux reds, plus Icewine.

In the 2016 harvest you will be trained by a Napa Valley cult winemaker with multiple 100 point scores and another equally accomplished Consultant winemaker. You will also be guided by 2 Masters of Wine and the leading viticulturalist in BC.

Interviews will take place in the Okanagan Valley between June 1st-5th. The start date is intended for August/September.

By January 2017 you will have completed your training and will assume full responsibility for all vineyards and winemaking as Head Winemaker. For future vintages you will continue to have access to these same prominent Consultant Winemakers.

The ideal candidate will have:

-A formal winemaking degree. Please do not apply if you do not have a formal and high-level winemaking degree from a prestigious University.

-At least 10 years' experience making premum quality wines including Bordeaux reds.

-Have experience managing and developing vineyards.

-Have won impressive awards and accolades for your wines.

-Be a respected leader and have the ability to manage a team.

-Be goal-orientated and results-driven with the objective of producing the best Meritage style red wines in Canada, amongst others.

-Be ready to commit for the long-term as the compensation package will be designed for maximum benefits for candidates who are willing to work as part of this family company for the long term.

We are interested in applications from both international and local candidates.

An attractive compensation package will be offered with bonuses and incentives structured over the long term
