Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery was established with our first vintage in 1988. At that time we were one of a very few estate wineries dedicated to producing premium quality wines made from 100% Ontario grown grapes. Today, Henry of Pelham is a 200K+ case producer in Ontario’s Niagara Peninsula.
We are seeking several enthusiastic individuals to work with us during the 2017 harvest. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Winemaker and Assistant Winemakers.
We have positions open in both the cellar and the lab:
Candidates for the cellar will have the opportunity to work with numerous vinifera and hybrid cultivars. The role will involve assisting in all aspects of winemaking such as:
• Receiving and processing grapes
• Racking juices and wines
• Inoculations, juice/fermentation/wine additions
• Pump overs and punch downs on red ferments
• Pressing out of red fermenters
• Barrel work: filling, topping, stacking, emptying
• Cleaning and sterilizing tanks and equipment, maintaining a clean and safe cellar space
Candidates for the lab will be involved in the following:
• Processing and analysis of pre-harvest and harvest grape samples
• Daily monitoring of fermenting wines which includes density checks and sensory evaluation
• Malo-lactic fermentation monitoring
• Data entry into Winemakers Database
• Assist in routine analysis of older wines in storage
• Fining trials on juices and wines
Requirements:
Experience working at a winery and education in oenology/viticulture are an asset but not a requirement.
Successful candidates are:
• Highly motivated and have a strong work ethic
• Can work well in a team
• Strong communication skills
• Motivated and passionate about making high quality wine
• Able to lift 25kg (for those working in the cellar) and able to work at heights
• Strong adherence to safety and operational procedures
• Willing to work shift hours including weekends (6 days a week, often > 50 hours/week)
• Must be legally able to work in Canada
Pay Structure:
Hourly wage according to experience.
