Mill Street Brewery is seeking a candidate for the assistant cider maker and distiller role in Downtown Toronto. This position will offer the opportunity to work in a dynamic and creative environment developing skills with a highly experienced team. The ideal candidate will be energetic and show desire to learn and develop skills in all aspects of the business. People skills are important as the successful candidate will represent the brands to the public in a variety of situations including tours and tastings.
Responsibilities Include:
· Assist in all aspects of on-site cider making and distilling operations.
· Assist in the development of innovative ciders across largely-varied styles to be featured at local brewpub and potentially other brewpub locations. Establish recurring brands as well as seasonal and single batch ciders.
· Maintain stringent safety and quality standards in line with defined company policies/procedures.
· Assisting with raw material and process supplies ordering and inventory management.
· All aspects of cider-making and distilling, fermentation, finishing and packaging of multiple brands including new seasonals.
· Perform soft maintenance on equipment.
· Attend local and out-of-town brewing competitions and events to present and speak about ciders to small and large groups. Drive local cider release events at the pub.
· Brand ambassadorship, tastings, interaction with customers in our pub and events.
· Interact with and educate customers including running cidery tours.
Qualifications
· One year of practical experience and/or education in cidermaking or winemaking.
· Diploma or Bachelor's degree, in oenology, or relevant discipline preferred.
· Interest in modern craft innovation, cider making and distilling. Strong references within wine or Craft Cider community preferred.
· Leadership and personnel management skills.
· Lift heavy objects on a daily basis (35kgs).
· Excellent communication skills - able to effectively deliver presentations and speak to large groups in formal and informal settings is a must.
· Knowledge of food and chemical safety regulations and procedures.
