Trade Marketing Manager (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION

Reporting directly to the Director of Marketing, this position will primarily be responsible for filing marketing applications and new product submissions/ tenders with the liquor boards.  This position will also oversee execution and implementation of local marketing programs, provide post-program analysis of effectiveness and efficiency, and assist with implementation of national brand marketing programs for his/her assigned brands (such as sampling, social media and/or POS).  

DESCRIPTION OF MAIN FUNCTIONS:

Product Listing Submissions for Assigned Brands

  • Set up application calendar for submission for Wines, Spirits and Special Markets categories for all provinces
  • Advise key stakeholders on tender criteria and set internal meetings for alignment on products to be submitted.
  • Complete all steps required for submission process in accordance with the submission deadlines including:  Pre-submission, Product Purchase and Marketing Plan Applications; sample ordering; pricing analysis; label and carton submissions; gathering of supporting data.  For third party brands, this requires clear and detailed communication with suppliers.
  • Develop presentations for Liquor Board meetings.
  • Follow up for P.O. generation by the Liquor Boards
  • Notify key stakeholders on listing decisions and maintain list of all products that have been submitted and their status (pending, accepted or rejected) on shared drive and send out monthly reports

Trade Program Applications for Assigned Brands

  • Set up application calendar for submission of programs for all provinces
  • Working with General Manager, Director of Marketing, and Provincial Managers, lead the development of the proposed programming calendar for each SKU in each province during the annual business planning process, ensuring each program is on-strategy and builds off of previous year’s learnings and that total provincial programming calendar is within that province’s annual trade budget for the brand. 
  • Set up and maintain on shared drive Master Retail Programming Grid of proposed trade marketing programs with expected costs and volume that will be updated on regular basis to show submission and approval status, actual costs, actual volume.     
  • Complete monthly program applications per the deadlines and per our requirements
  • Provide a monthly and quarterly list of approved programming to HQ staff, sales staff and suppliers as required

Annual Business Planning

  • Assist General Manager and Marketing Director in preparation of annual business plan through gathering of materials and data for the plan, performing analysis, and completing other tasks as warranted. Analysis required will include review of efficiency and effectiveness of trade programs and recommendations for what programs to repeat and/or modify in future years.

 

POS Material

  • Work with Marketing Director to scope out budget for POS.  Coordinate with global POS Manager and with Roust USA team to order POS.  Manage allocation to field and manage centralized inventory.
  • Follow relevant brand guidelines to create printed POS items including sell sheets, shelf talkers, neck tags, tent cards, tasting cards, special event brochures, flyers and posters under the supervision of the Marketing Director.
  • Develop process to support sales team for locally produced POS material (e.g., customizable menu cards)

 

 

Budget

  • Manage the trade marketing (on-premise and retail) budget for all provinces.  Perform monthly reconciliation to track budget vs. plan and adjust future plans, as necessary, when overages/underages occur. 
  • Assist Marketing Director in managing the Headquarters marketing budget
  • Submit monthly accruals to Finance

 

Other

  • Develop on-premise tracking process for sales team to track on-premise partners’ volume, activity, budget, and actual spend for key brands.   
  • Work closely with Roust supply chain team and provincial managers to monitor orders processing and shipping and provincial inventory
  • Maintain monthly competitive pricing grid with major competitors’ pricing for assigned brands.  Alert General Manager and Marketing Director to provincial price structure changes and floor price changes as well as competitive price movements.
  • Keep General Manager and Marketing Director informed of key competitive trade activity.
  • Disseminate key marketing information (press hits, media plans, etc.) from Marketing Director (for owned brands) and from suppliers (for third party brands) to the sales team. 
  • Ensure sales team has access to relevant assets to execute local sales initiatives

Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in beverage alcohol industry for leading supplier or agency across multiple brands and regions
  • Detail-oriented
