Wine Shop Supervisor (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

Situated on the lower slopes of the Niagara Escarpment, Tawse is a family-owned winery voted Canada’s Winery of the year in 2010, 2011 and 2012.  The inspiration for Moray Tawse’s winery came from his love of Burgundian Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Using organic and biodynamic farming practices, he has since expanded his range to terroir-driven Riesling, Cabernet Franc and Merlot crafted by Paul Pender and Rene Van Ede. 

We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and knowledgeable wine enthusiast with hospitality expertise to manage the wine shop and a team of +10 employees. The ultimate responsibility of the Wine Shop Supervisor is to meet wine sales targets while ensuring the best customer service environment. The right candidate will possess strong communication and sales skills, be detail-oriented, have the ability to multi-task, and be willing to work weekends, holidays and the odd evening if required.

Areas of Responsibility:

·         Provide positive leadership and direction to all Wine Shop Associates

·         Co-ordinate and conduct VIP and Group tours

·         Create a positive work environment that is focused on customer service excellence

·         Recruit and train new Associates when required

·         Develop bi-weekly work schedules for the Associates to ensure adequate coverage of the tasting room, retail store, and special events

·         Conduct performance appraisals and manage and execute the staff incentive program

·         Set wine sale targets and incentives for all weekends

·         Report on retail wine sales on a weekly basis

·         Manage inventory and make purchasing decisions for all retail merchandise

·         Promote and execute all on-site events, under the direction of the Hospitality Manager

·         Manage and track wine inventory on a daily basis

·         Manage the POS system (Square) and tasting menu application (POET) for price and menu changes

 

Prerequisites:

·         Knowledge of and passion for wine, preferably formal education in wine at an accredited school

·         Experience in the wine industry

·         Management experience in hospitality and customer service

·         Sales experience

·         Proficient with Microsoft programs (Excel, Word)

·         Able to lift cases of wine (approx. 15 kg)

Assets:

·         Bilingualism

·         Data Analysis experience

·         Quick Books experience
