The Microbiologist and Laboratory Technician will execute all Microbiological tasks, procedures and protocols in order to ensure effective and quality results so that all quality standards are met and exceeded. Assists in determining whether raw materials, musts, cellaring wines and finished products are made with MAG quality specifications through chemical and microbiological analysis in the lab. The position will be 50/50 Micro and Lab Tech work.
Position Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Perform daily quality and beverage safety related decision making.
- Conduct microbiological and analytical analysis of juices, wines and environment.
- Prepare and conduct plating and microscopic work to identify bacteria and yeast strains.
- Collect and perform routine analytical analysis of tanks, barrels, and bottled wines (pH, TA, Alcohol, free and total sulphur, conductivity, filterability and residual sugar).
- Analyse parameters using spectrophotometry
- Perform Sanitation quality control checks including tanks, lines and production equipment.
- Assists winemaking on special projects as required.
- Set up bench trials for sensory evaluation, set up and tear down tastings.
- Analyze finished products samples, both chemical, microbiological and packaging.
- Understand the HAACP environment and recommend corrective actions.
- Perform data entry and data analysis.
Experience and Qualifications:
- University Degree or diploma in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science or related discipline.
- 2+ years of laboratory experience including chemical and microbiological testing, preferably in a food and beverage technical role.
- 1 year of quality assurance experience, experience in managing a HACCP governed program, as well as CCP’s and GMC’s, preferably in the Wine Industry.
- Understanding of Sanitation and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Knowledge of testing/quality assurance procedures, methods and equipment.
- Proven problem solving and analysis skills.
- Excellent computer skills including QA and statistical analysis software and strong MS Office Skills.
$30/hour plus overtime, pension, benefits.
