Quails’ Gate Estate Winery is nestled in the beautiful Okanagan Valley in the southern interior of British Columbia. Our 125 acre estate winery, located on the shores of Lake Okanagan, is owned and operated by the Stewart Family, pioneering horticulturists since the turn of the 20th century.
As a result of planned significant growth we are seeking an experienced Viticulturist.
The successful candidate will be responsible to manage the overall viticulture program for the Estate and take a lead role in planned vineyard development and expansions. In addition, they will be responsible to meet winery objectives on quality and yield for premium wine grape production.
Specific tasks include:
o Monitor vineyard facilities and equipment and ensure maintenance tasks and repairs are carried out as required
o Manage the operations of the vineyard, including soil management, irrigation, disease and weed control
o Keep records of techniques used and harvest outcomes for each season
o Work closely with the Winemaker and Vineyard Manager to establish and achieve annual vineyard operational goals and yields
o Ensure viticulture practices are carried out at the highest standards
o Support environmentally sound vineyard practices
o Develop and implement successful vineyard expansions- from new plantings to re-structuring of existing vineyards to optimize the overall vineyard quality and efficiency
Applicants should have a degree in Viticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture or a similar program complemented by 5-10+ years of experience in vineyard operations. Specifically, experience should encompass vineyard interventions including irrigation, nutrition, pruning, canopy management and pest/disease management. Proven experience planning, developing and planting new vineyard sites in cool climate wine regions would be a significant asset.
