De Simone is a small batch winery producing 4000 cases annually. Located it Niagara on the Lake on the main road heading to the historic old town. We are becoming a staple for premium wine and are growing quickly. We are looking to have an Assistant Winemaker join the team!
We are looking for someone who is self motivated, business oriented, who can work extremely hard, is ambitious, has a positive attitude, can handle the hands-on workload of a small winery. Candidates must have previous experience in this work field.
The tasks below will indicate job description:
- VQA Submissions, from preparing the wine to be sent for approval to uploading the label files, and full approval by VQA on a timely manner.
- Preparing all wine for bottling via bottling truck or manually bottling smaller batches
- Choosing bottling dates and having the wine ready, labels ordered, glass ordered and delivered on time.
- Knows label requirements for VQA approval
- Ordering Corks and Capsules/Wax
- Ordering barrels, and wine additives
- Heavily involved in vintages, grape processing, Ice wine harvest, pressing
- Choosing harvest dates based on our philosophy
- Monitor brix in vineyard, scouting vineyard
- Data entry, Able to create spreadsheets
- Knows how to implement grape weights into GGO
- Keep track and proper notes of winemaking procedures, tank volumes, L in tank, L losses, monthly reports for book keeper.
- Monitor Fermentation’s, pump overs, punch downs, rackings, pressings, filtering, micron filter.
- In charge of yeast program and ordering.
- Occasional Vineyard work when necessary
- Occasionally Retail work when needed
- Working long hrs when needed, working weekends
- Lab Analysis, in house or get sample prepared for Brock and drop off. Must understand lab analysis and how to adjust wine.
- Able to problem solve, repair equipment when needed
- Run crush pad and clean crush pad and equipment
- Work directly with Winemaker, game plan with Winemaker
- In charge of our sparkling wine, cider, spritzer program
- In charge of topping barrels, barrel ordering, racking barrels, cleaning barrels, storing barrels properly.
- Keeping the cellar clean
- Must be handy
- Helping with maintenance
- Must have experience driving forklift, will be stacking pallets, barrel racks
- Must have minimum 5 years of experience in the cellar
- Directly involved in vineyard management with possible tractor driving, we practice organic, Assistant must have the same views.
This is a job for someone to be fully invested into this winery for more than 5 years, someone who wants to grow in the company, create a name for themselves at De Simone.
