Join a dynamic and innovative winery in Muskoka! We’re looking for an energetic and passionate winemaker to craft and develop wines and ciders with a Muskoka terroir. We’re a unique cranberry farm, specializing in wines and cider made from indigenous fruit. Current production is approximately 140,000 litres of wine annually, sold onsite, through the LCBO and overseas. We are a family owned and operated business offering flexibility, collaboration and variety to someone with the passion and drive to grow with us.
Duties and responsibilities
- Make delicious wines and ciders! (fermentation, racking, filtering, blending, bottling etc)
- Work with production manager to ensure production and scheduling targets are met
- Research & order supplies & ingredients
- Lead innovative product development
- Plan & conduct trials & experiments
- Conduct regular lab analysis of products
- Collaborate with sales to conduct info sessions, gather feedback and enter competitions
- Collaborate with Production Manager to achieve packing and quality targets for wine, cranberries, and maple syrup
- Keep excellent records for traceability
- Monitor, edit and author standard operating procedures
Resources at your Disposal
- 860 hectoliters of stainless-steel tank capacity
- Manual bottling line with capacity > 1 case per minute
- Forklift and 40 + pallet positions of warehouse space
- Wine lab station with laptop and analysis machines (acidity, SO2, residual sugar)
- One meeting per week with a winemaking consultant with decades of experience
- Owner/original winemaker available for consultation
- Sommelier on staff
Qualifications
- Post-secondary qualifications in wine making or a Bachelor of Science, mandatory
- Sound computer knowledge and detail oriented toward record keeping
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Critical thinking/ problem-solving abilities
- Food safety training, an asset
Working conditions
- Reports to Production Manager
- Working conditions & work hours vary seasonally. Weekend work is required when behind on production schedule. Four-day work weeks possible when ahead.
- Supervision varies from working alone to collaborating as part of a packaging team of 10.
