General Manager (Wine Jobs: Management & Administration)

THE POSITION

Reporting to the President of A.O. Wilson (“AOW”), the General Manager (the “GM”) is a dynamic, culture and results-oriented progressive leader. The GM has accountability for the following departments: customer service, sales, human resources, procurement, shipping, marketing, accounting/administration/IT.

The GM is a strong leader, someone who inspires those around them to be at their best, someone who instills and reinforces a sense of pride, excellence, and dynamic growth within the work environment. Most significantly, the GM is a self-starting hands-on leader who is adept at building a great company culture, innovative problem solving and providing an outstanding customer experience.

 This role requires the following profile:

  •  Leadership. The GM demonstrates excellent hands-on leadership. He/she is adept at articulating a team’s vision and objectives, empowering, and working through people to achieve results. In doing so, he/she is able to (i) lead the AOW teams in Erin and Kelowna to achieve stretch goals (ii) establish trusting, collaborative, empowered and accountable team cultures and (iii) develop leaders.
  •  Results Orientation. The GM possesses the ability to recruit, staff and manage talent. This position demands the ability to focus on a clear set of objectives, articulate clear milestones, measurements, accountabilities, and drive toward a successful outcome. He/she must be a “make it happen” leader who provides clear purpose/direction, MBOs, performance metrics, successfully achieves KPIs, and annual key initiatives.
  •  Accountability. This position has overall responsibility for (i) managing AOW’s P&L, cash flow and balance sheet (ii) achieving excellence in customer, employee, and vendor retention and (iii) meeting or exceeding key performance indicators in (i) employee engagement (ii) customer satisfaction and (iii) sales and operations.

GM accountabilities include but are not limited to the following:

Leadership

  • Managing the following departments: customer service, sales, human resources, procurement, shipping, marketing, accounting/administration/IT.
  • Managing 2 operations located in Erin, ON and Kelowna, BC
  • Drive a culture that is aligned with Massey Capital values

Finance

  • P&L, cash flow and balance sheet management
  • Meet or exceed annual operating budgets

Human Resources

  • Champion the Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Manage the human resources processes and best practices such as Employment Compliance, Performance Management,  Talent Acquisition,   Employee experience,    Workforce Planning,  Total Rewards Management,  Develop high performing teams,        Manage the succession plan for pivotal roles

Sales

  • Grow the business by identifying and following through on business development, sales, and marketing opportunities
  • Order entry and Management- Entering sales orders. Reviewing the open orders and checking in on delayed shipments. Route planning and picking for shipments on our truck (Niagara, PEC, GTA).
  • Customer relationship Management- Speaking directly with customers regarding past, present and future orders.
  • Outside sales meetings for potential large contracts and acquisitions.
  • Occasional cold calls and business development efforts.
  • Occasional Technical Sales calls - Assisting customers with any technical questions regarding any of our products.
  • Occasional post-sales support- Assisting customers with setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance/ repairs.
  • Acquire, quote, and secure custom projects with both new and current customers.
  • Occasionally answer and direct phone calls.
  • Occasionally respond to customer inquiries.
  • Occasionally provide maintenance and repair services for equipment.

Inventory/ Purchasing

  • Monthly Inventory analysis- Reviewing current inventory levels, comparing to sales history, and generating reports to support purchasing decisions.
  • Analyze the data from the reports generated to dictate sourcing decisions (ie safety stock levels, reorder points, order amounts, etc.)
  • Monitor all rates (freight, exchange, product costs, etc.) and adjust pricing calculation excel files accordingly to keep current and accurate.
  • Submit, review, and monitor orders. Comparing past and current orders for cost changes and making pricing recommendations based on any fluctuations.
  • Maintain supplier relationships, negotiations, and other purchasing functions
  • Update customers on open purchase orders advising the status and ETA.

Operations

  • Investigate and initiate change to improve operations systems and procedures
  • Coordinate all efforts of the team to ensure shipments are processed in a timely fashion, checking orders for accuracy to ensure the correct product is sent.
  • Assist where required (order picking, shipping, deliveries)
  • Delegate tasks for an even workload distribution

 GM Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing daily business operations.

  • Analyzing accounting and financial data.

  • Generating reports and giving presentations.

GM Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Business Management or a Master’s in Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience leading high performing teams, preferable in a general management capacity
  • Food & Beverage field expertise is an asset.
