Company Background:

Loch Mór Cider is an award winning orchard-to-glass cidery in Prince Edward County, Ontario. We craft premium ciders in a range of formats and styles from fortified cider and small batch single varietals to dry hopped and barrel aged ciders. Our facility (cellar and tasting room) is based at our 10+ acre orchard, which is planted with 29 varieties of traditional cider apples. We use the apples from our orchard to ferment rare single varietals, along with blending for larger batch ciders. We are apple growers and aim to produce authentic, world class and delicious beverages from the apples grown here. 

Our ciders are sold from the tasting room on site, regional farmers markets along with licensees. Since 2019, we have received numerous awards for our ciders, including four Best In Class results from GLINTCAP, Best Cider of the Year 2021 WineAlign and Best of Category 2021 All Canadian Wine Championships. We have also been featured in a number of publications online & in print, both locally and nationally. 

The team at Loch Mór Cider consists of the owners, assistant cider maker (this position), seasonal orchard/farm hand and seasonal tasting room team. 

The assistant cider maker is a critical role for the company. This is an opportunity to make truly exceptional ciders. You will learn how we make our ciders and execute all aspects of the day-to-day cider operations. Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing goals for the quality, quantity and efficiency of the cider making operations in coordination with the owners

  • Assist with developing production schedules and specification sheets for each cider

  • Maintain a sanitary production environment at all times

  • Work with the owner to coordinate apple sourcing and pressing schedule on site

  • Execute pressing, fermentation, bottling and production processes

  • Perform lab tests of juice, fermented ciders, final products to maintain quality

  • Maintain inventories of cider-making supplies and packaging and work with head cider maker to make sure orders are timely

  • Work alongside others on orchard tasks and spray schedule, which may include operating tractor and sprayer

  • Maintain production equipment 

  • Maintain an orderly warehouse and inventory of cider

  • Monitor online & licensee orders & ensure all are dispatched in a timely manner

  • Participate in sales activities at events and markets, as production schedule allows

Skills & Experience:

  • Successful science coursework and understanding of basic chemical and microbiological processes relevant to cider making

  • 2+ years of hands on experience with food and beverage production, wine-making experience is particularly relevant

  • Knowledge and experience of sanitation principles and practices

  • Tasting experience and understanding of flavors and balance

  • Curiosity about ciders, cider styles, and cider flavors

  • Physical capability to execute production processes, which requires lifting at least 55 lbs

  • Attention to detail to monitor ciders, keep facilities clean and sanitary, control costs and keep inventory counts accurate

  • Organization skills to manage production processes according to plans and goals

  • Analytical skills to create successful plans, and to identify and solve problems along the way (knowledge of Excel is a plus, as well as the proactive use of scientific and expert resources)

Work is on location in Prince Edward County, Ontario. Residency or work permit to allow work in Canada is required. Fluency in English is required.

This is a permanent, full-time position, ideal start date Sept 2022.
