BC Tree Fruits Cider Co. is currently seeking a motivated and experienced General Manager! The General Manager will be responsible for directing cidery production, fiscal management, and providing input on marketing and sales in both wholesale and DTC. In addition, create and manage strategic plans and related budgets to maintain and achieve future profitability.

BC Tree Fruits Cider Co. was created with one thing in mind: to hand craft a premium hard cider from 100% BC fruit picked from our own orchards and crushed in our own mill. A cider as traditional as the sixteen-foot ladders we climb at harvest time. We’re looking for someone with a passion for the cider making industry and someone who will positively lead a team in its operations.

Our ideal candidate is a proven operations and production leader with the experience and energy to run a large environment that has high value strategic impact on the overall business. They have both directly and indirectly led production site planning, developed production schedules and managed a large number of staff. The words influential, collaborative, and inclusive define their leadership and management style and they clearly understand the balance between quality, efficiency and cost. We’re looking for someone with a passion for the cider making industry and someone who will effectively lead a team in its operations.

The successful applicant will have the following key accountabilities:

  • To assume responsibility and drive the productivity and efficiency of the overall business through the effective production of cider products, development of supply and demand plans, on-going analysis of variances and collaborative actions across functions to ensure successful execution of a business model that ultimately delivers a beneficial return on assets to the growers.
  • Work closely with the CEO and CFO to meet strategic goals and growth plans.
  • To lead reporting of the business, and work with the senior management team to ensure that concerns & opportunities are tabled. To work with finance to develop and execute practical departmental budgets aligned with the action plans that will strategically leverage diverse resources, prioritize and support on-site maximization of sales, channel focus and longer term productivity, quality and efficiency goals.
  • Build strategic working relationships with peers across the company as well as achieving and maintaining the accuracy and consistent flow of information, execution of defined process, and performance of the overall business.
  • Determine policies consistent with company or divisional policies and direct and supervise the application of such policies.
  • Recommend long-range strategic, capacity and capital planning to meet objectives.
  • Oversee the asset preservation of buildings and equipment, plant security and protection.
  • Work collaboratively with sales on demand planning and channel strategy.
  • To work collaboratively with the Assistant Winemaker to ensure the execution of supply from demand planning.
  • Work closely with the Sales & Marketing Manager to ensure supply, branding, image and premiumization goals are met.
  • To work closely with the Health and Safety Manager and conferring with personnel on the application of methods and standards as well as adherence to safety, quality or other company programs.
  • To be involved in developing SOP’s that meets food & work safe requirements that will ultimately ensure the safety of our employees and our products.
  • Select, train, motivate and supervise an efficient team to achieve operating goals. Achieve on site sales and profitability goals.
  • May be required to represent the company in the community and promote the company's goodwill and interests in activities.

The successful applicant will be qualified by possessing the following key attributes:

  • Cider/Wine Industry knowledge and all aspects of cidery/winery management, production, mechanical, H&S and technical knowledge
  • 5+ years in a senior management position at a cidery or winery preferred, similar experience in a related business may be considered
  • Excellent analytical and creative skills with attention to detail with effective time and project management skills
  • Ability to formulate a plan for long-term success and gain support for the vision and its implementation
  • Adaptability and openness to change. Well-rounded interpersonal skills including ability to coordinate with multiple departments
  • Ability to manage and satisfy stakeholders
  • Knowledge of production planning and production schedules
  • Possess excellent record-keeping and organizational skills
  • Financial acumen - Financial Statements comfort, budget management skills, prudent cost conscious focus
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with an emphasis in team building and problem solving
  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel, internet use and Outlook
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field, or equivalent education and experience
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation – willingness to travel when needed
