Portfolio manager (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

Function summary

Under the direction of the Regional Manager – Ontario, the Portfolio Manager is responsible for planning, developing and coordinating all the steps of a marketing project for the producers they are responsible for. More specifically, he/she oversees the performance of the products and the competition, marketing research, annual brand plans, sales projections and execution of marketing activities, and the administration of producer budgets. This role is also responsible for the timely submissions of LCBO and other marketing opportunities across Ontario.

Primary role and key responsibilities

  • Tracks, analyzes and measures product performance, by market segment, on an ongoing basis and submits recommendations for monthly reviews. Provides the necessary adjustments to maximize sales potential, return on investment and ensures the achievement of objectives considering market trends;
  • Proceed with a market watch and makes sure to be on the lookout for new marketing or promotional trends for the brands in his portfolio;
  • Develops annual brand plans, in a spirit of creativity and innovation, to meet and exceed the annual sales and profitability targets for each of the brands under its responsibility;
  • Collects, analyzes and interprets the results of the current year in order to prepare sales projections that will be submitted to the budget;
  • Executes the marketing / product communication strategies under his responsibility and ensures that marketing / communication activities respect the brand strategy;
  • Prepares business reviews for each producer, as well as a monthly analysis of the performance of each of the brands under its responsibility;
  • Supports the regional manager in the identification of products responding to calls for tenders from the LCBO.
  • Supports the regional director in the planning of the marketing strategy for the LCBO and restaurants in line with sales and business development objectives.
  • Plans, in agreement with the regional manager, the visits of the suppliers under its responsibility and optimize the presence of the producer during his stay;
  • Participates in wine shows or other events when required and accompanies suppliers occasionally during their visits.
  • Participates in the development of marketing research and is responsible for its execution, analysis and interpretation.
  • Oversees Tender process with various departments and submits tenders per outlined deadlines.
  • Ensures the Ontario has proper pos to increase sales at retail and on-premise locations.
  • Frequently updates provincial price books.
  • Ensures timely submission of WPP/LTOs to the respective provincial boards.
  • Responsible for timely delivery of sell sheets to support feature activity each month.
  • Manages in coordination with Regional Manager the provincial and customer promotional calendars.
  • Performs any other related tasks as required.

Requirements

  • University degree with a specialisation in marketing;
  • 2 to 4 years experience in the field of wines and spirits or alcoholic beverages;
  • English proficiency (spoken and written). A second language is an asset (French, Italian or Spanish)
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),
  • WSET 2 certification – strongly recommended
  • Background knowledge of Spirits recommended.
