Job Overview
This position is responsible for implementing the best vineyard and winemaking practices for the existing and expanding 9+ acres of Minnesota Cold Hardy Hybrid varietals and managing all supporting winery infrastructure with a high-standard for quality and fiscal responsibility.
Essential Responsibilities
· Develop and implement a vineyard operations plan with an associated budget
· Develop and implement a winemaking and cellaring strategy with an associated budget
· Recruit, train and manage personnel for vineyard activities (including, but not limited to, planting, tying, pruning, weeding, harvesting, pest control, spray program, equipment operations, maintenance) and winemaking assistance
· Develop and implement maintenance protocols for all vineyard and winemaking equipment
· Develop and execute a vintage plan for each of varietal and wines
· Manage and control the quality of winery products through the winemaking process
· Perform necessary laboratory analyses on winery products
· Work with a sales and marketing team to support winery sales
· Represent winery and its products at relevant events and competitions
· Purchase, maintain, and operate vineyard equipment
· Report to owner as required
· Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations
· Ensure employee Health and Safety policies and procedures are well set
· Other duties as assigned
Requirements
EDUCATION:
· High school diploma
· Diploma in viticulture &/or winery management (or equivalent experience)
· On-the-job training
EXPERIENCE:
· Working in a vineyard and winery
· Performing relevant laboratory analyses
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
· WHMIS
· Pesticide license is an asset
· Forklift license is an asset
