We are currently looking for newly graduated and/or seasoned candidates to fill the opportunity of a Winery Hand to grow in one of the largest and most technically advanced wine-making facilities in Ontario. The facility is a commercial winery located in Niagara Falls, producing a large variety of products, using both traditional as well as new wine-making and packaging technologies. This is a great opportunity to start and grow a career with exposure to many different opportunities within the wine industry.

As a Winery Hand, you will support the business throughout peak periods of the year, working on packaging lines as well as vintage winemaking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Run a variety of wine packaging and grape processing equipment and ensure quality standards are achieved 
  • Maintain a continued flow of product to ensure the optimization of the bottling/packaging/incoming grapes 
  • Perform quality inspections, and document findings 
  • Assist in line changes as required 
  • Maintain a clean work area 
  • Assist during vintage in roles including grape reception 
  • Work in warmer or cooler conditions – some outside work may be required 
  • Ensure Health and Safety guidelines are adhered to 
  • Be able to work with little supervision 
  • Work within a unionized environment

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum College diploma in wine/viticulture processes/technology, science (chemistry/biology) 
  • Shop floor understanding 
  • Potential beverage production line experience 
  • HACCP / GMP knowledge
  • WHIMIS experience

Working Conditions:

  • This position may require physical effort (up to 100%), which entails lifting and moving both full and empty cases of wine, lifting of raw material, and movement of heavy equipment.
  • The work environment varies according to the external temperatures and some outside work may be required.   
  • The noise level exceeds 85 decibels. Hearing protection is mandatory.
  • There is a strong presence of glass in the workplace. Gloves must be worn when there is the possibility of exposure to broken glass.
  • Safety Shoes and Safety Glasses are mandatory within the workplace.
