At Bella Terra Vineyards we are committed to growing quality grapes and producing premium wines. In celebration of Niagara’s unique topography, soils and climate we refer to our estate vineyard as BELLA TERRA or “beautiful land”.
The Vineyard Supervisor, is responsible for direct supervision of on-site vineyard staff, tractor operations and irrigation duties as needed. Responsible for ensuring that all vineyard duties are completed in a timely and optimal manner as directed. This position will be responsible for up to 100 acres of vineyards.
Job Description
- Trains and oversees day-to-day tasks completed by vineyard staff
- Ensures that all vineyard duties are completed in a timely manner
- Coordinates and provides a presence in the vineyard to ensure various farming activities are completed efficiently
- Execution of general vineyard management work including pruning, irrigation management, weed control, chemical applications, disease, pest control, cultivation, canopy management, and harvesting
- Assists in all the vineyard development activities including land preparation, trellis and planting, etc.
- Mechanically Inclined
- Operate tractors, heavy equipment and other equipment
- Valid Driver’s License
- Strong communication skills are essential. Ability to speak and write clearly and well; Proficient in the English language.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excels in planning and organizational skills as well as the ability and desire to be a team player
- Proficiency in the Spanish language would be considered an asset
The Successful Candidate:
- Has the ability to plan several steps ahead, prioritize daily tasks and supervise multiple projects and vineyard staff
- Experience in a supervisory role in a vineyard, producing premium quality grapes considered an asset
- Ability to learn new concepts and effectively communicate to vineyard staff
- Knowledge of farming equipment and annual operations
- Experience in irrigation operations and repair
- Post-secondary education in viticulture or horticulture would be advantageous but not essential
- Proficiency in the Spanish language would be considered an asset
