Cattail Creek Estate Winery is a quaint, family owned and operated winery located in the heart of Niagara on the Lake. All of our VQA wines are made from grapes grown exclusively on our family's vineyards which date back to 1956.
We are looking for a contract winemaker who will be responsible for creating premium, handcrafted wines from crush to bottle. This winemaker will be hands on, executing all winemaking activities.
Responsiblities include, but are not limited to:
- Grape Processing: Grape testing, grape reception, destemming, crushing and pressing.
- Fermentation Management: Innoculations, nutrient additions, sampling, punch downs, pump overs and sugar monitoring.
- Cellar Work: Barrel work, racking, transfers, blending and additions.
- Bottling: Preparing wine for bottling and bottling operations.
- Cellar Sanitation: Tank and barrel cleaning and general cleaning of facility and winery equipment
- Health and Safety: Follow all safety procedures and SOPs
- Safe operation of Forklift and other winery equipment
- Bulk inventory management
- Managing production costs.
- Providing daily reports of work completed.
- Impeccable record keeping for bottling, audits, etc.
- Laboratory analysis.
- VQA Submissions.
- Preventative maintenance on winery equipment.
- Sampling and organizing tastings.
Qualitifications:
- Degree/Diploma in Oenology and Viticulture
- Minimum 5 years winemaking experience
- Proven track record in producing high quality wines
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Strong financial management
- Lab technician experience
- Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Offiice
- Attention to detail
- Able to handle challenging physical work
- Superior problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Willing to work long hours when needed
- Ability to lift 55 lbs
