Position Summary:
Lead, manage and ensure compliance to the production of wine/sparkling products, VQA and GMP programs and aligned to short and long-term goals of estate winemaking team. Continually seek both quality and cost opportunities to benefit the products and the business and liaise and align to a variety of internal stake-holders including Viticulture, Marketing, Sales, Finance and Supply chain. Work with the national winemaking team to establish best practices and learning’s while being responsible to lead the estate operations team with responsibilities for budgeting, health & safety, environment and human resource activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure quality standard and brand style objectives for some and/or all varietals within the brand, assist in developing new products. Effective wine-maintenance and ensure facility cleanliness.
- Partner with Marketing to support strategy for marketing the brand Manage winery capacity utilization, barrel management and vintage intake
- Stay current on industry trends and implement new winemaking technology, interact with vendors to exploit winemaking technology Ensure compliance with VQA & CVA regulations
- Ensure site delivers defined wine objectives and meets quality expectations and ensure the execution of the bottling schedule, Method traditional bottling, disgorging and labelling
- Oversee and coordinate all winemaking process and scheduling Recommend and implement bottle aged and release timing for all products
- Establish challenging goals / assignments to grow and develop the team
- Train and develop direct reports on winemaking procedures and winemaking techniques
- Under the guidance of PR, conduct interviews with the press as needed
- Deliver brand presentations to distributor groups with a charismatic and professional approach as needed
Job Requirements
Education/Experience/Technical/Specialized Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Biology/Chemistry/Winemaking/Viticulture or any related science discipline.
- BS in Food Science, Oenology, (micro)Biology or Chemistry
- Greater than 3 years experience in winemaking
- Experience in Sparkling wine production
- Knowledge of winemaking techniques and viticultural practices
- Knowledge of Cellar, Lab, Bottling and Vineyard Operations
- Intermediate Knowledge of facilities maintenance as it pertains to consumables (Biological, Physical or Chemical risks)
- Proficient computer skill (Excel, Outlook, Word, LIMS, JDE)
