Winemaking Supervisor
Stratus Vineyards located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada
Is currently seeking a Winemaking Supervisor to work closely with the Winegrowing team and who will supervise a number of projects including Wine Production, Bottling, Plant Maintenance, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability.
Stratus is a LEED-Certified winery known for premium wines and its focus on the art of assemblage. As the Winemaking Supervisor, you will lead a team during the busy, harvest season, as well as focus on administrative duties related to maintenance, safety, and winemaking software. This is a hands-on position with a number of interesting administrative duties. The winegrowing team is small, but diverse. You will play an integral role in the success of our winemaking goals.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will work directly with the Winemaker. The position will involve the full range of winegrowing activities including, but not limited to, the following:
· Supervise the Stratus Production Team on all aspects related to Cellars, Maintenance, Safety, and Research & Development;
· Coordinate and Supervise Bottling;
- Work closely with the Cellar Supervisor, QC Supervisor and the Winegrowing Manager as it relates to specific projects;
· Coordinate and supervise the maintenance of the winery and its surroundings;
· Implement and maintain a Preventive-Maintenance program;
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate with contractors for resolution;
- Maintain the Occupational Health and Safety Program and organize staff training;
- Order and maintain food-grade gas supply for winemaking activities;
- Enter and ensure that cellar tickets and analyses are accurately recorded in the computerized system (WMDB) each day;
- Supervise Winemaking Activities throughout the year;
- Maintain the Environmental Program, as requested;
- Monitor energy consumption;
- Oversee the Sustainability Program including communication with suppliers; and
- Oversee Research & Development Initiatives and ensure that the information is accurately entered into the R & D report.
For the majority of the year, regular hours are scheduled. We also work together on teams with flexible shifts that may include daytime, late evening and weekends during harvest from October to December.
Qualifications for this position include:
· an education in winemaking
· experience with a minimum of three harvests
· knowledge of wine equipment maintenance
· a valid Ontario Driver’s License
Experience with Geothermal and WMDB is a plus.
