Job Description:
As Assistant Winemaker you will work in partnership with our winemakers and cellar team to ensure wine quality is maintained at all stages of the production process. You will create and provide cellar work tickets to the cellar supervisor for scheduling, updating all required wine tracking systems in a timely fashion and making recommendations for general wine processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Winemakers Day to Day
- Support Winemaker in managing all domestic wines ensuring quality expectations are met
- Ensure all regulatory compliance requirement are met
- Support the winemaker to ensure all packaged products are provided to the bottling tanks in such a condition to reduce risk of FG AD as much as reasonably possible.
- Support the winemaker on the VQA submission process.
- Attend Daily Schedule meeting
- Schedule all required lab work, review and recommend follow up action
- Supervise bottling crew
- Aid in work flow and delegation of tasks
- System Compliance
- Conduct tank updates and winemaking in the wine system related to all products.
- Aid in daily work summaries
- Conduct sparkling wine inventories and scheduled disgorging
- Supply & Demand Forecasting
- Support the supply /demand forecasting process (S&OP). Especially related to accurate blend codes for all products in the wine system as “make” numbers are provided and the accuracy of the wine system blend codes
- Sales & Marketing Support
- Support the NPD process to ensure successful launch of new products.
- Create trial blends as directed and prepare samples as requested for winemaking and marketing
- Support sales / marketing in market as appropriate and as approved
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or required
Qualifications
- Qualification in Winemaking
- 1-3 Years of Experience in Winemaking ideally at a medium to large winery
- Ability to quickly learn greater business concepts (analytics, business systems, brand planning, processes, financial concepts)
- Familiarity with the brand planning process and capacity to understand/develop brand strategies/ tactics to support overall brand objectives.
- Analysis and synthesis of data into insights
- Project Management
- Financial acumen
- Adept in presentation development and delivery.
- Strong to expert skill level with Excel, PowerPoint, Word and digital spaces
- Qualification in Winemaking
- Relationship building and positive, “Can-Do” attitude.
- Forklift License.
- Disgorging Experience.
Working Conditions
- Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about.
- Occasionally required to lift materials or equipment.
- Occasional exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, noise and fumes, which can cause noticeable discomfort.
- Regularly need to give close attention, either hearing or seeing, to what is happening.
- There is continuous pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.
