Now Hiring Harvest Interns for the 2022 Harvest. This position runs between September 15 through to December 23, 2022, with the potential to be extended through March 2023 for some.
About:
Burrowing Owl Vineyards (1993) and Estate Winery (1997) was developed by the Wyse family with a vision to produce ultra-premium BC-VQA wines that represent the best characteristics of the region. Burrowing Owl obtains most of our fruit from our 260 acre privately owned vineyards. The production facility is located 10km south of the town of Oliver and located among some of the Estate's oldest and most prized vineyard blocks. The Okanagan vineyards are planted in Bordeaux and Burgundy varieties as well as Pinot Gris, Syrah and a Viognier. The Similkameen vineyards are exclusively Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
The overriding philosophy of the winery is and has always been to use proven traditional winemaking methods to best express the terroir, in harmony with a state-of-the art facility, careful scientific evaluation and a dedicated winemaking team. Sustainable practices and environmental initiatives are valued highly at Burrowing Owl and the owners participate actively to advance these causes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Grape Processing: Grape and Juice Reception, Destemming, Crushing, and Pressing.
- Handling equipment, managing pumps, clamps, hoses, etc. typical of a mid-sized winery
- Handling standard winemaking chemicals.
- Learning and practicing our systems and commitment to quality across.
- Attention to detail and an ability to maintain an organized work space
Job Requirements:
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in appropriate science related discipline (Wine and viticulture preferred) programs.
- Dependable, and self-starting.
- Able to work long hours and irregular shifts including weekends and statutory holidays
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Able to lift 55lbs
- Eligible to work in Canada – (LMIA will not be approved)
- Knowledge of winery cellar operating procedures.
