Life of a Lab Technician
Laboratory Duties:
- Analyze incoming finished product samples by conducting analysis (microbiological analysis an asset) as well as observing packaging
- Follows regular sampling schedules within a specific environment and understands the different environmental climates while working in them
- Able to analyze and evaluate new products in clinical trials
- Use and maintain standard laboratory equipment and supplies in a clean and orderly condition
- To know and understand lab operations and sanitation of all lab equipment
- Document sample receipts and laboratory results
- Prepare reports as requested
- Understands the HACCP environment or other related food safety programs
- Able to coordinate inventory supplies both ordering and receiving
- To continue to learn and increase knowledge, skills and ability concerning winemaking procedures and lab practices at all times.
- Perform any other assigned work, as required.
- Enter analysis and work orders into winemaking database.
CellarHand Duties as Required:
- Identify, action and monitor completion of required cellar activities
- Assist coordinate bottling (as required) – organizing bottling materials, equipment maintenance, labour requirements, finished goods shipping, production records and any other related details.
- Order and maintain all Cellar Equipment year-around – this included ordering supplies and equipment (in consultation with the Winemaker), liaising with Vendors for repair and maintenance of equipment that cannot be done in-house; shipping equipment to and from vendors; cellar inventories (all equipment); completing all in house maintenance.
Do you have what it takes?
- Related degree or diploma (e.g., Science, chemistry, microbiology, food science) or related discipline is preferred
- 2+ years of laboratory experience including chemical and microbiological testing, preferably in a food and beverage technical role
- 1 year of quality assurance experience preferably in the beverage industry.
- Knowledge of testing/quality assurance procedures, methods and equipment
- Proven problem solving and analysis skills
- Excellent computer skills including winemaking, quality assurance and statistical analysis software
- Attention to detail
- Effective oral and written communication skills
